Inquiring minds...
I have a production number, but no production date as of yet
Anyway, I was wondering why the MINIs go from the UK to California???? Isn't that going around your a&& to reach your elbow, so to speak?
That means mine will then have to get to Atlanta from the west coast? I'm guessing it goes by rail, which means I'll need to stock up on clay bars to get all the "yuckiness" off when he gets here.
Just perpetually curious,
Annette

Where did you buy the MINI from? I bought through D&R in Indy and had a great experience.
From what I hav ebeen told, MIB will enter the states via the east coast, then on to a truck to Indy.
My first time ordering a car and it is impossibly SLOW!

Annette,
MINI has two Vehicle Distribution Centers on the east coast (one in new york and the other in Charleston). Since you're in Atlanta, your MINI will come through the Charleston port. The ship will then continue on through the panama canal and then go to Port Hueneme California for the west coast MINI owners.
Now that you have your production number call 866-ASK-MINI and they can tell you your build week. Then go into the first gear forum to find the thread for that particular week.

I believe that the ship goes to CA not unloading on the East Coast....probably through the Panama Canal....I live about 300 miles fm Charleston SC, so not a big problem....probably the Pacific Rim nations do it in reverse.
Oh, yay
Cool, well that will make cleaning much easier.
I ordered from Global Imports MINI in Atlanta. So far I've had a great experience, but the proof is in the pudding so I'll reserve judgement until delivery day.
I waited 4+ months for my PT back in 2000-2001, so this wait should be easier, but not much
Does MINI put your name on the window sticker? I still have my window sticker from my PT that says "Built Expressly for Annette Holbrook".
Thanks,
Annette

Your car should be in perfectly detailed condition when you take delivery from the dealer.

It will be very clean. "Pefectly detailed condition" - that wasn't my experience, but YMMV. Mine was vacuumed, washed, even had a coat of wax. But there was still some residual stickiness on the wheels, a few pink spots on the windows that I wiped off with my finger, some wax residue in the cracks, that kind of thing.
No biggie - first thing I had planned to do was a complete bath, Zaino treatment, etc anyway.
MINI actually has three ports of entry for new cars, one in Bayonne NJ, another in Charleston SC and the third in California.
All the cars headed to the Northeast and most of the Mid-Atlantic (and I think parts of the Midwest) go through Bayonne.
Cars going to the Carolinas and the Southeast (including Georgia) as well as the Gulf Coast and the areas of the Midwest not serviced by the Bayonne processing center go through Charleston.
All of the West Coast and Hawaii bound cars go to California. I don't believe the ships headed to California make any East Coast stops, if they do then they don't make nearly as many as the ships on the East Coast run.
MINIs are transported from the processing center to the dealer via enclosed truck. Your dealer will clean the car before delivery, they do this after removing all of the packing materials from your car (protective plastic on pontential rub points etc...)
