Differences between an 02 and an 04 MCS

What differences are there between the 02 and 04s?

Not so much which options are available, but more so performance? gearing, hp/tq, etc.

In terms of strict performance, there are no differences between the '02, '03 and '04 MCS. Mechanically they are the same exact car in stock form. Same HP (163) and same exact tall gearing. Differences however, are much more noticeable in terms of build quality (The 2004's feel more solid than the '02s) and some minor factory equipment differences.

The REAL difference in terms of performance is between the 2005/06 MCS and the earlier 2002,2003 and 2004 models. Light years away IMO!

The new gearing is shorter, the exhaust flows much more free and emits nicely tuned popping noises, revised supercharger, ECU programming and intake. The 2005 has 168HP stock (But feels more like 45HP in comparison to the older MCS) and first gear is 11% shorter for faster, stronger takeoffs.

I used to have a 2004 MCS and the first time I test drove the improved 2005 MCS, I put my order in and promptly sold the '04. Is that good!

If you are thinking about upgrading your current '02 MCS, don't even waste your time with a '04 MCS and go straight to a '05 MCS or brand new '06. When you get to test drive it, you'll see what I mean!

Shame on you for leaving out the '05 and '06 MC as an appropriate alternative to an '02 MCS.

There aren't differences in performance for 02' to 04' MC or MCS in a strict sense.

Differences are in availability of colors and options which are cosmetic.

Build quality and reliability did improve from 02' to 04'. There were a few recalls that applied to specific models.

There are a few individual differences in each MINI made, some are weaker in HP than others- you can't really tell except by test driving and dyno testing.

not even a thought of upgrading. I only recently purchased my 02. Excellent conditon, ETC. I love this car.

A buddy of mine has an 04 and I just wanted to know the differences, and whethor or not he had a head start on me performance wise, or if i could spank him around with my 'older' car

The 02 suspension is a lot tighter and has a lot stiffer ride than to 04. I have one of each. Thats the only noticable difference that I know of. The 02 can take the curves a whole lot better.
