R50/53 "What's the best MPG" contest!!!
"What's the best MPG" contest!!!
(This was suggested previously on a different thread)
OK - in this time of high fuel prices, maybe we need to start a little gentleman's (not gender specific) competition.
4 categories:
1) MC City
2) MC Highway
3) MCS City
4) MCS HIghway
To be clear, "city" is MOSTLY city driving (stop and go), 55mph or less; "highway" is mostly highway driving (open thoroughfare) 55mph or more [driving 55mph+ through town doesn't count!]
It's entirely on the honor system. Let's start Tuesday morning (9/6/2005), everyone reset their trip computers, or start fresh on their log book.
Keep track for the rest of the week. Only count mileage through the week.
Starting 9/13 (1 full week), post your average fuel economy with miles travelled along with any tricks/tips used to achieve your results on this thread.

Well, there's not much at stake... just bragging rights.
The idea is really more to exchange ideas (and wacky notions) on how to maximize fuel economy, with a few numbers to back it up. The onus to get the most accurate numbers possible is on the drivers/owners. Keep it fun... motor on!

I'm up for it. Just filled it up this evening and reset everything. We'll see if I can keep my foot out of it this week. The weather's supposed to be a little cooler next week, so us North Carolinians will have a no/AC advantage.

BTW, My manual does use the words approximately 13.2, (page 55 in the 02 version) so some variance is possible

The only problem with coasting down the hills is that you have to get up them first !
I'm over west of Winston-Salem in the foothills. I love Asheville, that's got to be the best possible place to own a MINI.

I did add approximately in a follow-on post. Now I'm wondering........ I'll have to check the 05 manual and see what it says...er reads tonight.

hijack over....
I personally believe that they increased the size of the gas tank at some point... my guess was either in 04 or 05. I have put in 14 gallons too... but all of the people I've seen so far who say they've hit 14 on a fill up have newer MINIs.
I don't think anyone is counting the amount of fuel that will fit in the fuel fill hose. if the tank is completely empty (it's bad to run it that empty btw) you will be able to put in the entire 13.2 gal PLUS it wouldn't be a stretch to put almost a whole gallon in the length of the fuel fill tube. I've driven trucks that held 2 gal extra in the fuel tube due to the diameter and length to the tank from the gas fill.

Does anyone pay attention to when the little red light comes on when you hit the quarter tank left?
I filled up last night. I always write down my miles on the receipts, so i'll go by that. I fill up every 4-5 days, so i'll post what i got. i like to get on it from stop lights, though.

17 MPG averaging 15.5 MPH for 199 miles of San Francisco city drivingNote: MPG is hand calculated and MPH is OBC readout
