R50/53 Anyone else spoil(er)ed?
I saw a rear spoiler on a couple MINIs during my first dealership visit, and I thought it was a great look. I haven't noticed many other folks talking about this option, though. I'm planning on getting one on my silk green, white roof/mirror/wheels, chrome bumpered Cooper. Anyone else?
It's standard on the S, but optional for the "regular" Cooper. The Cooper spoiler is a bit different than those on the S model- doesn't extend outward as far and doesn't have the loop-hole design. For the Cooper it comes in the sport package. I'm glad I got one. Coopers look like they're missing something up top without the spoiler IMO. Also, it must help with the aerodynamics of the car in some way aside from looking so damn snazzy!
I'm thinking about doing the same (I think spoiler on the S is aptly named).
Was your dealer cool about letting your change it?

Opal - great minds think alike. I ordered the EXACT same thing you did

First off it's 163 hp... The only real difference i noticed was the suspension. The cooper S comes standard with a sports suspension, which is an option on the cooper. I drove a cooper without it, and while zipping around boston, I acutally bottomed-out the car on a shap turn. When I took the same corner on the "S" with a little more speed, I expected it to do the same, but it didn't!
One more thing..did you drive the cooper without sport suspension & 16" tires. I've driven the car w/ the sport suspension but, it had a rough ride and didn't do well while accelerating to pass another vehichle on the highway. That is the reason I opted to get the cooper s.
The person at the dealership suggested I drive the cooper without sport suspension for a less choppy ride. I didn't have a chance. Has anyone driven the cooper w/out the sport suspension?
Any opinions?

I thought it was a great ride! We had 4 people in the car, total weight being somewhere around 7-750 pounds, and the car had great pull off the line! I kept peeling out before I got used to the way the car "worked." The only real downside I noticed was the stock Cooper suspension although rigid, just a little bit too soft for the car, along with the 17 inch tires leaving the ride a bit choppy. You could feel every single crack you went over! Thats why I opted for the 16" V-spoke rims for my S!

Although I'd opt for safety over clean any day, I've noticed the rear of my "S" seems to get dirty and dusty quickly. After thinking about it, I think the spoiler is the problem. It's a problem I can live with. It's not as bad as the brake dust. MB
