Had the MCS for some time now, but finally decided to join this site... Glad I did, tons of info. Hated paying for my oil changes, and broke down to do the Mini for the first time this past weekend. What a PITA! Whomever thought of the placement and access to the oil filter needs to be slapped around.

I've gotten so spoiled with my truck, squirming in and around the Mini is a chore!

I saw the sticky on the subject, and I'm down for kicking tires and good eats. But what's Hendricks, and what's going on there?

 

Hendrick's is just the club members hanging out at the dealership for awhile on the 3rd Saturday of each month. We catch up with each other, harrass the staff, entice new members into the club and sometimes help sell cars. Hendrick seems to like having us around.

 

Can't find the pic of my buddy's orange Scout perched on a berm in the woods. We used to wheel together, and that thing would go ANYWHERE...he's often go off trail and create his own wacky photoshoot.

Cool that you noticed the Scout bit. My roommate and I both have Scouts (and between us, I think we've owned 8), and we have fun with them. I've only had the Traveler since last summer, but it's been a great ride. It's kind-of an alter ego for the Mini.

I sometimes drive it for weeks on end, and don't touch the Cooper (totally against common sense, given today's gas prices). Then I have to remind myself that, "Hey, the Mini's a blast and it's been neglected lately." Then I don't drive the Traveler for several weeks before I remind myself that, "Hey, the Traveler is a blast and it's been neglected lately." Viscous cycle!

I've been thinking that I might try to pick up an old BMW motorcycle on the cheap. You know-- clean it up, mod it into a fun little cafe racer.... Then I'll have a third dilemma for going to work! I can see myself in the driveway now, grinning...

I'll try to make the Cracker Barrel/Hendricks thing in a few weeks, but I don't know my work schedule out that far just yet. I just moved to Charlotte a couple of months ago, so it'll be good to meet a few people. If I'm in town, I'll probably be there!

Welcome to the club, we will also be going to Ashville for our quarterly meeting after the meet at Hendricks. Hope you can make one or both.

 

Welcome, from the Prez! We also do a meet n eat the 3rd tuesday of the month. June 17th we will be meeting at .RO.s BBQ in Gastonia NC. Each month we try to go from one side of town to the other so people don't have to drive so far, like the don't care after all they are in a MINI.

 

Thanks for welcome! If I'm in town, I'm sure I'll join you for the Cracker Barrel thing and later the run to Asheville. And I'll probably stop in for a bit at Hendricks, but I don't think I want to log 5 hours at a dealership in between breakfast and dinner...

What do you guys typically do there, besides make the Hendricks people money?

 

Sometimes we taunt the Miata club across the street! ;-) Actually, they're a friendly bunch and judge some of our events.

Hendricks is fun. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it either but I am glad I did. We talk, joke, harrass, tell new potential owners how much we love our cars and promote them to our club.

Thanks for the welcome everybody... Well, I'm pretty certain that I'll not be able to make the Hendricks weekend (out of town), but I should be at the BBQ meet-and-eat on Tuesday in Gastonia.

Regarding the Miata crowd... Funny you mention it, my dad is on his second Miata now. Has only been driving a Miata for the last 10 or 12 years. Aside from the short fad back then of driving a van, and a few years in an Integra, my dad has only ever driven the likes of: TR6s, TR4s, Fiats, MGs, the Miatas, and at one point an Austin Healey 100-6. I still give him trouble for letting the AH go! He's not ready to split yet, but when I first let him drive the MCS he took a long thought about going MINI.........
