Mini Totaled into Mountain

It's uh, been a while since I last posted on here. I thought I should go ahead and share this though, last friday I was on my home with my friend and I came up to a turn that I was very familiar with, posted limit was 40mph. I have taken this turn much faster than that before. This day was a little bit different. Fog was heavy, a mist/slight rain, I was nearing the exit of the turn when my back tires came out a little bit. I slammed the throttle to the floor trying to get weight to the back, at the same time I turned the wheel to straighten out. My back end then dipped through a wash in the road, we were now traveling head-on toward a concrete/cement wall. After this point I do not remember anything until I got out of the car. At the looks of things I made once last swerve to avoid a head on collision, i steered left just missing the wall and slamming the passenger side of the car into an embankment. We hit the embankment became slightly airborne landing on the rear drivers side rim folding it under the car. All 6 airbags deployed, I climbed out with the wind knocked out of me and made my way to the side of the road. I then saw my friend riding shot gun climb through my door and walk over next to me.

I am over 18 and signed a release letting me leave the accident after it was cleaned up, my friend was 17 and could not sign it and went to the hospital to get checked out. After about an hour they released him, he had a headache and he cut his tongue. I however went back to the hospital later that night with back pains, after a urine test, blood test and x-rays they found that my kidney was bleeding and recommended me to get a ct-scan. I was at the hospital till 5 the next morning, they released me having a fractured rib and bruised kidney. Today they brought the car to a body shop for the insurance to come and take a look, I went by to take pictures.

I will say that I do plan on ordering another mini, I love the car and the fact that my friend and I were able to walk away from this amaze's me .

Glad you walked away with only the injuries you mentioned. But this shows how safe the Mini is.

Glad to hear you and your friend are going to be OK. Good to see the MINI took such a hard hit so well.

Now when it is foggy and wet what are you going to do?

His sigline image changes between different colors of s-lites. Maybe they're all s-lites, but different colors on each side?

That's it - note the sig, as it 'fades to black'.

Sorry to hear about the accident, misfit. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a nice new '06!

Not to be morbid, but if you can get the steering wheel from the salvage, the thumb button two spokes are the best!

In reference to tires/rims, they are all black s-lights, front tires are bfgoodrich g-force kdw 2, what comes on srt's, the back are the factory runflats, they had not worn down to the point they needed replacing...

I want to salvage a few parts off, steering wheel, exhaust, and I already pulled my "ian chip" out

I am not a tire expert, and don't even play one on TV, but I have always heard that it's not a good idea to mix tire brands / types on a car. Especially one as small as a MINI (I don't even do it on my wife's Lexus RX-300). Something to do with the handling, character and feel. I always buy four at a time...

Glad you walked away from this one misfit03 - tough little car, huh?

But I'm sorry it was totaled.

Well, then I'll say it. Mixing tires like this on the Mini is a HUGE issue.
I was teating tire fit once and only drove down the road a short distance with different rear tires on. It was very scarry.
DON'T DO IT!

Very sorry to hear about your horrible experience Misfit03. Frightening to hear "Misfit" and "totaled" in the same sentence Makes my peppered front seem trivial. Take good care of the Misfit2

You got REAL lucky that you, your passenger or another innocent motorist wasn't killed. Don't kid yourself it was skill either. Save it for the track, people. I'm surprised you don't have a nice reckless driving ticket too.

Good to hear you were not hurt!

Always remember to put the NEW tires on the back and do not mix tire compounds. Can become very unpridictable!!

Amen to that brother! No wonder teenagers pay astronomical amounts for insurance coverage. Glad to hear you walked out of this one, but there my not be a next time around, so please be careful.
