Clown car or just plain jealousy??

I have a younger co-worker that drives one of these Acura RSX's with the melon launcher tailpipe, the ultra big fin on the back and fairly regular claims of 130 mph... He's got the audacity (in my opinion) to call my '05 MCS a clown car. I just smile and take it in stride. I'm a proud clown I suppose.

I'm certain "April" could eat his lunch in the handling department. What about flat out speed? A recent "Automobile" magazine put The MINI MCS at the top of the six pile heap of cars they rated it against and an RSX was under it. I was pretty proud to read that.

Any opinions?

Dave

The poor loser definetely has some sort of "gender" insecurity, besides appears to be a rabid and proud member of the "ricer" culture.

How cares what this dude or others think?

The '05 MCS has a top speed of 135MPH right out of the box. The MCS beats any Asian ricer machine, including the RSX, in terms of handling dynamics, performance, looks, engineering, safety, resale value, cool factor, pedigree/heritage and racing history.

Personally, I find the Acura RSX to be a cheap looking, cheesy Japanese car. The Civic Si, has more personality, if you could say that an Asian tin can has more personality.

I find the most knowledgable among auto enthusiasts are willing to give Mini/MINIs their due and are quite respectful. Those who are dismissive out of hand are displaying some degree of ingorance...I pity them and leave them to their slumber.

Take him for a ride, then see who's the clown : )

Wipe the smirk off his face with a little handling demonstration , eh?

i hang out with a ricer crowd... and although they wouldn't own a mini, they respect the fact i love it. Just yesterday i got a "Your MINI is a cute car, but i wouldn't own or drive one." But he really enjoyed the ride in it.

I'm sensing a trend. Every single person i've taken out lately has stated "Wow, it's alot roomier in here than i expected" Then they position themselves and get comfy Once they get comfy "that's a BIG speedo." Not exactly "compliments," but hearing what other ricers say, i take it as something pretty positive.

*maybe it's because they couldn't afford the MINI + hook it up? :P

i agree. i could never understand how anyone can make judgements about cars (or anything for that matter) without being knowledgable about the subject.

i could say all day that an acura could beat a mini (or vice versa) all day but i wouldn't because i've never driven one or read any direct comparisons. i can't stand that.

if someone said that to me, i would just ask them how they know or maybe i would just say something that would confuse them.

Assuming it is a type S. In a straight line it would be pretty close, with the RSX winning the 1/4 mile. From what I gather the Type S will run from 14.3-14.8 in the 1/4. Overall top speed of 145. Someone posted a week or so ago that a stock 05 MCS does 14.8 in the 1/4. Also you don't know what mods this guy has done besides the giant fart can.

Why don't you challenge him to a little race and let us know how it comes out? That would settle it. A lot ricers are all looks. Not all though, but what are the chances that a cocky driver with a fart can who doesnt know how fast MINIs are actually has a fast car or the ***** to use it. He's just jealous.

I just simply don't deal with ignorance. I topped 137 mph, still had some room, however like I said I do not take a RSX into consideration. Just simply for the fact that "THEY DO NOT KNOW ANY BETTER". Give them a smile and walk away, let them worry about their cheap Hondas.

MAN, why didn't i think of that??¿!!
Yeh, the last guy to comment had a wanna-rice automatic accord. I asked him if he even knew how to drive manual, he said yes... he just chooses not to. He likes to RELAX while he's driving.

I wouldn't mind having a RSX-R. I eat rice on a regular basis,
but not a ric0r.

RSX-S is a cool boy racer machine though. it's got its ups and downs.
I don't know about top speed, I only test drove it a couple of times and
it was a pure Honda. I liked it.

but him saying that a MCS is a clown car shows his ignorance. a neighbor's
kid's buddy has a modded RSX-S (not ricy) and he has tons of respect for
my MCS... well, not going to tell you why, but he just does. he even
copied my car and got himself 16" SSR Comps with the same GS-D3 tires.

ken, my comment "let them eat rice," was a silly reference to Marie Antoinette's "let them eat cake" comment! No offense meant....sorry if it came off in a negative way.

Likes to relax while driving--well, there you go--he would HATE a MINI because I like to grin and punch it while I am driving. Clearly, the honda is for different people who want a hunk of tin that is not exciting--no matter how great the diameter of their fart cans might be!

RSX comments

While it is unquestionably ignorant for anyone to slam the Mini as a "clown car," it's just as ignorant to dismiss "japanese tin" or "ricers" in general. I've got a mini on order, and currently drive a 2002 TT 225 coupe. I've owned several Audis & Mercedes as well as acuras and hondas - It's ridiculous to characterize an RSX or any acura/honda as "cheap" or "tinny," or lacking in engineering. They are really incredibly well-engineered cars, and the engines (210hp with no forced induction) are remarkable. I've been seriously considering replacing the TT with an RSX type S. I love cars, and probably spend too much time on them, but when you start to define yourself in terms of the car you drive or get too concerned about what others think or say about it, you need to get out more. Just my 2¢

Dr. Porshe always said that powerfull cars should be automatics so the driver had one less thing to think about. He also said there was never an automatic that was good enough to be worth the advantage of not having to think about shifting. I wonder what he would think of the current crop of manuelmatics?

And the RSX is a great car just like the Mini is a great car, they are differnt, but both great. I have driven both are great, just different goals.

You couldn't be more right I have no desire for an RSX. Now an NSX... that's a different story. And it's pretty much the same engineering group.

How about uniqueness?

I think that an RSX is just fine. I never had any thing bad to say about them one way or another, but after picking up my 2005 MCS last Saturday I can say that I have never been in such a wonderfully totally unique car in my life! There is nothing else like it. Sure there are TONS of cars out there that are faster. Some even handle really well. But that feeling of being in something truely unique and special. I wonder if you have that same feeling in these other cars. i.e. WRX's or EVO's or the RSX? Just thought I'd throw in my 2.5 cents...
