I'm certain "April" could eat his lunch in the handling department. What about flat out speed? A recent "Automobile" magazine put The MINI MCS at the top of the six pile heap of cars they rated it against and an RSX was under it. I was pretty proud to read that.

Any opinions?

Dave
Just remember... there is always someone faster. Who knows what else he has under the hood or what suspension mods he has. As for the clowns.... well, at least you can find your car in a parking lot without too much trouble..

I really don't care whether an Acura, Subaru or Honda beats my Cooper S off the line, and the same is even true in my MCoupe. After all they still go home in their "Acura, Subaru or Honda" and I'll go home in my Cooper S or MCoupe.
Isn't it nice to be a snob?

I don't know that there is a definitive answer, but this term is short for "rice-burner". It has nothing to do with a specific ethnicity...but refers solely to certain makes of car...primarily Japanese...that are modded, usually w/ little regard for taste. Often overdone, "ricers" can border on grotesque...sporting features like those big, monstrous spoilers which are all show and generally do nothing. Unpainted but primed body kits are often found on ricers...the assumption being that the owner couldn't afford to paint it properly but still wanted to be "all that".

Anybody else wanna take a swing at this?

Yeh, the last guy to comment had a wanna-rice automatic accord. I asked him if he even knew how to drive manual, he said yes... he just chooses not to. He likes to RELAX while he's driving.
Then what is the point of Motoring? Oh I forgot he said driving......

Clown Car, there is a term that I hate.

I have used a come back to the "Look at the Clown Car" remarks.

When asked how may clowns fit in my MINI, I will ask what do you drive? If the person says some type of mini van or suv then I answer 4. Then I say "You are welcome to load up the rest of the circus and follow me."

Cheers,
Jack

Ricer: "...refers to automobiles (usually low-cost factory standard) that have the appearance of a customized or high performance car, but possibly with little or no functional modifications such as improved engine, suspension or brakes."-Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricer)

Wow, I went there to find a definition and found the ultimate insult...not my intension. I really don't care for the "ricer" culture as it is, but I'm not going to go out of my way to be against them. They are doing their thing, let them because I got my own over here. DaveTinNY, you did the right thing...just let it roll right off your back.

Rigidjunkie: Nice! I love that Dr. Porsche quote, and he is right in both cases, but I won't start that flame war now. I do have one comment: DB9. Now that is a flappy paddle system, even the guys from Top Gear were loving it. If only I can get a flappy system that well engineered on a MINI.

Short Bus and docross47: I really really don't want any agruements or flame wars to start from this. What is wrong with cruising? I love to go out in the evenings when the sun is setting and the air is cooling down. Wind in my hair an the sun at my back. Just to go out and drive around town for a while. Find roads and places I've never been before. Not all driving must be done like a race, but if racing is what you do then I wholeheartedly agree with Manual all the way. I guess since I do enough intensive machine operation (fly an airplane), that when I get in my car I just like to relax a bit. But, I agree, for someone to be driving in a car like his and for it to be an auto is pretty sad since he obviously wanted into that whole "professional racer" culture.

Man it is really hard to discuss these topics without offending someone, especially since I am going out of my way not to say something ingnorant of my own. So I appologize if anyone took offense because I really didn't mean it.
