Funny story in Colorado

So I pulled my MCS into a Sinclair gas station in Idaho Springs, pumped my gas, and paid for it at the attendant window. The conversation with the female attendant goes like this...

Att.: "So what kind of gas mileage does that little thing get?"

Me: "Anywear from 24-34 MPG."

Att.: "Oh, so it's not like one of those Geo Metros that get 50 MPG."

Me: "No."

Att.: "I had a guy come in here with one of those but it was all suped-up and he said he only got 12 MPG. That's not very good."

Me: "Nope, sure isn't." (exit stage left)

Okay, so which one of you NAM guys were telling tall tales to the nice Sinclair lady- hahahaha

Funny Story... gee, all the Sinclair gas stations in the Northeast
dissapeared about 25 yrs ago. I didn't know they were still around. I remember being a kid and they would give out banks shaped like green
dinos to save your pennies in.
At any rate, here's my gas station story...
Pull into a MOBIL and go inside to purchase some gas...

lady att: oh, you got one of those electric cars.

me: how do you know that?

lady att: because one of my friends has one.

me: give me 20 dollars on pump 3.

lady attendant enters the purchase into the register as I begin to leave the store to pump the gas.

lady att: hey, why are you putting gas in an electric car?

me:I've been buying gas for so many years I keep forgetting. Well, I'll take
the 20 bucks worth this time, but if you see me again, remind me that my
cars electric ok?

lady att: sure will. Have a nice day.

One more funny gas station story...

I'm in northern Maine. It's the land of big 4wd trucks, dairy farms, farmers and potatofields. The 03 MINI is almost brand new. No one in these parts ever seen any auto lookin like this.
This is the area I grew up in, but no longer live. People are humble and tend to make their point in the fewest words possible...

Pull into an old mom and pop station in the middle of nowhere. An old farmer
sitting out front smoking a pipe spies the MINI and strolls over and begins to
slowly stroll around the MINI. First thing he does is mistake my UNION JACK
front license plate for a confederate flag...

ol farmer: you must be from down south?

me: I guess maybe...(an expression used only in Maine and can be the response for just about any question ever asked)

Old farmer circles the car 3 times inspecting every detail while i'm pumping.

ol farmer: reckon she wouldn't be much good during mud season?

me: I guess maybe...

(mud season in Maine is when the ice breaks up in the lakes and the snow is melting. It's actually between winter and summer.Maine has no Spring, but
they do have MUD season)

Ya gotta love the honesty and the few words used to make a point.Old
people in these parts look at a car like a MINI and scratch their heads.
If it don't plow the field, carry bales of hay or spread manure, it just don't seem like a good investment... yah gotta love the honesty though...

I do think Sinclair is one of the last independent refiners; unless U live in a state that surrounds Wyoming (where the Sinclair refinery is near Rawlins) doubtful you'll see one. j

I hadn't seen a Sinclair in many, many years. Took the family skiing this past February to Colorado and was surprised to see one. I offered the attendant at the station $5 for his inflatable dino display. You should have seen the quizzical look in his eyes. It now hangs proudly in my garage along with other auto memorabilia from by-gone days.

When we moved to Ft.Lauderdale in 1962 my dad bought a Sinclair station. I still have a green metal nut/bolt cabinet from there in my garage

Does anyone remember Flying A gas stations? Or Jenny gas stations?
I remember them as a kid, but I don't think their around anymore. Of course I didn't think Sinclair was around anymore either. I remember being a kid at a Jenny station with my dad. My dad was furious because he paid 32 cents a gallon and the most he ever paid before in his life was 27 cents. He was hot

I remember when they gave out bags of little plastic dinosours. My little brother and I were real good at pestering my father into getting his gas at the Sinclair station when they had that giveaway!

OMG! Gas station give-aways! That was a lo-o-ong time ago!!!
