First pucker factor this morning

I've had my '05 MCS for just short of a month now, ~2000 miles on it and I'm feeling really comfy with the handling. She never ceases to amaze me.

I was finishing up my 50 mile commute to IBM here in NY and there's a really nice, long 180 degree offramp posted as 35mph off interstate 84. Some dude in a rice burner with the goofy, BIG fat muffler in the back end came zipping up next to and then more or less cut me off (though i never hit my brakes)... at the turn he slowed a bit but i just stepped on the gas... time to test the road grip of the now broken-in 17" S-lite 205's, he he... i took the turn at i think around 70 and passed him in a good blaze. left in the dust... i thought for a moment the mini would roll -- i had that much g-force on me -- but it held like a fly on sticky paper. amazing, amazing road grip! the pucker factor was definitely in effect when i pulled out into the straight away. holy shista! big, happy, shakey grin and it definitely woke me up!
i remember reading in a 2005 review of the MCS that your courage will likely give out before the car loses control. i'm now believing it! that's enough chances for now though. i'm normally a pretty safe driver (former firefighter).
Can't wait for my commute home - in 15 minutes. :-)

Add a set of sticky 215/45 non-runflat tires and a thicker rear sway bar......!

Nice story, Dave!!! It is a truly awesome moment when our MINIs reveal their claws for the first time, whether by circumstance or by design. Gives you a whole new respect for your "little cute MINI!"

Nice Story. I'll have those days every now and again where someone in a 110 hp civic with a 2 foot wing and 35 stickers and a folgers can on it thinking that each sticker gives them an extra 10hp. It's funny when you see the look on their faces when you drop it in 3rd at 45 and look at their reaction in your rearview.

Remember what the ad says, be careful not to turn too hard into corners or you may get G-Face! You don't want to look like this guy do ya?

And the correct term you are looking for regarding the ricer's exhaust is "melon launcher".

You didn't know? adding a "Type-R" sticker anywhere on a Honda adds 7-10 hp!

LOL!

Maybe I'll make a sticker that says: "Type QWERTY". That ought to keep them guessing!

Makes no sense to me. The car doesn't lose control, the driver does. And the courage thing? Bah!

The tires get really noisy and the front pushes hard as you approach the limit. And then when you do hit it, it's usually just a matter of keeping on the gas, or neutral and all is well.

But getting the tires screaming for relief is pretty extreme street action, best to stay below the din and you'll be fine.

Unless the pavement is wet -- then you're screwed.

Agreed . You'll eventually learn the limits of the MINi and want to push it even higher. Just don't try anything too crazy in the wet

FOLLOW UP! Yesterday morning on the same offramp a guy in a "nicer" VW went by me obviously testing me. This time I sped up - but not to the speed of this thread starter. I let him go knowing my prowess... When I got to the top of the ramp a NY State Trooper has promptly pulled him over and was quickly approaching the perp.
Note to self: Got to watch myself at that ramp.
Anyway it made my morning, lol...
