hey Andy - your attachment is hosed

Glad the wedding went ok - and thanks for complimenting MM2, he's been feeling self-concious with me pointing fingers at his rock chips from the hard miles.

Nice suit!

Bringing the thread from page 4. In other news I got sideswiped yesterday. Luckily not my car (I think it'd be easier if it were!), but boyfriend was in the car too...

I'm still trying to figure out how it was, according to the officer, *my* fault for being on the van's blind side and not yielding to him. Uhh? Hello? I was more than a quarter of an Audi car-length in front of him, isn't that out of his blind spot? I was supposed to thank him for not citing me, I think...

*sigh*

In California, the right of way goes the the biggest vehicle, or the most beat up ugly vehicle, and if all else is equal, the loudest driver wins

Glad you are OK.

why yes I have - Robert is on the top of the BBK game right now.

Where is everyone else? 15 months since April 03 - hey, we haven't really ever heard and long-term reports from the April 04 "newbies" either!

Man, I need to get out more... *scurrying to see what this brake kit is all about*

In other news, my MINI didn't quite dodge the meteors, or the squirrels at least. Got a noticeable dent in the roof of the car, right over the driver's side door.

Sometimes you just can't win

Sorry about the dent. Can the paintless dent repair people get to it? I picked up a small but "I know it's there" dimple on my driver door. I was parked next to a no parking fire lane, following all of my parking rules to the letter, and someone pakred in the fire lane to unload and got me with their door.

Just hit 20k. Dash rattle is back with a vengeance. Needs more that a turn of a screw I guess. Goes away in the heat, or with the defroster on. No other problems to speak of. Just signed up for a track day on Sept 24. I need to do a thorough tech inspection. Probably need to get new tires, Any suggestions? I wish I had enough for the b3 kit. I want to finally get a sway bar before then.

Ha a great run up Highway 29 this weekend. This is a great road. 17 miles of un-relenting corners and the best part, there are lots of passing lanes, and not on the straights. All on corners The only problem was the WRL (Wife Rev Limiter) was installed and on full alert

Have a great day and seekend all.

Andy

The dent is most likely something that can be repaired easily. I just have to get around to getting it done. In the meantime it's staring at me.

What're you looking for in tires? I've been *really* happy with the Eagle F1's. Less happy with boyfriend for getting annoyed and laying 20 feet of rubber with them. I insist that he buys the next set.

Another interesting issue with the car was my main axle bolt loosening. Heard a funny chinking noise when the car rolled.. trusting mechanic laid down beside the car as we drove it back and forth. It was about a quarter turn from correct torque... glad we caught that before the next track event!

Need good wet/dry performance. My Goodyear dealer friend thinks I would be happier with Kumho MX or ecsta 712 (I think that's what he said). He likes f1's but thinks they are over-priced. Yoko's don't seem to get very good mileage. Maybe Toyo 4's. Anything that is an improvement over Goodyear runflats. That should be easy.

And, price is a factor.

Well, my track tires are the Kumho MX's... they need some care in the rain, from my experiences on the track with them. Maybe they're a lot more confidence-inspiring with a larger contact patch, but if the rain had continued I would have thrown the F1's on to finish the event. Can't say much about the 712's since I haven't used them or heard much about them. I'm finding really good mileage on the F1's compared to the Yokos that I had (and boyfriend has 10-15,000 miles on his set with relatively little wear).

For the price, the Kumhos are hard to pass up, but be aware that they don't offer the same amount of grip in the rain as the higher-priced Goodyears. Just my experience, of course. We all know that I'm not normal by now...

... and WHERE are these flies coming from?! *looking for swatter*

MM2 is approaching 20k miles I wonder how many miles Red has?

Rachel - how do you like your MX's so far? I've found they basically suck booty when they're cold, but get much better when they're at least warm. I haven't had a chance to really push 'em yet, so I'd like to hear your experience to date versus what you had before.

Ryan - MUCH better when they're warm. I haven't had the chance to take them on transition mornings when we're looking at fall weather (probably will when we hit Mount Tremblant in the next few months), but they can't be any worse than the Yokos in the truly cold - hard and NASTY.

When they're warm, I actually like the feel of them better than the yokos. *Very* tight grip at the edges of adhesion on the track. Very predictable in their grip as well - though so much of that has to do with the suspension as well (it actually took a bit of adjustment for the crisp turn-in once the tires were up to temperature on the track). Very little chunking even with really truly heinously hot days of tracking. Talking to a lot of track folks, the MX is their favorite dry weather non-slick tire. In the wet, it's another story. I never tracked the yoko's, but on the road wet, the Yokos were probably a bit better (nothing like the F1's, but that's a LOT more $$$). On the track with the MX's, they were predictable but not *great*. Anyway, you asked about dry warm: GREAT *sticky* without leaving all of the tread behind. Not a lot of noise from the tires when they were pressed, both traits that were annoying about the Yokos.

[QUOTE=Ryephile]MM2 is approaching 20k miles I wonder how many miles Red has?

At the risk of being subjected to much ridicule, 8,000 miles.

I know, I know. But I travel a lot nowadays in a company car, and this summer managed to put some miles on the old 69 convertible.

The Mini seems so cool and refreshing everytime I get in it, maybe because I don't get much opportunity. We love it, hope to put some miles on this fall.

BTW, even though the manual says the OBC knows your habits and all, they do change the oil in one year, if anyone happened to wait that long (No one on this thread!).

Hope all is well!

regards,
Red
