I am so pissed....

It fell off this piece of construction equipment....they are working on pretty much every street in my neighborhood.

Now there is a crack in my windshield. I have an appointment tomorrow to see if they can fix it without repairing my whole dang windshield.

I HATE CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT AND ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Sorry....I really had to vent.

WOW.. THAT SUX!!!!!! Really sorry to hear that L. Mini..... I understand your frustration.

Did it fall from a truck and then hit your car???? If so the company that owns the truck should pay for you fix.

I went ahead and got glass coverage with the mini... I have seen all the posts about broken windshields and wanted to be ready.

I hope they can fix it for you!!!!!

I am going to look into the company paying for it. Luckily, since they are working in my neighborhood, it will be easy to identify where it came from. I just hope that tonight if it gets cold, the crack doesn't spread and hopefully the glass repair place will be able to fix it in the morning.

Actually at first I thought that the rock had actually hit the front of my MINI, which would have been worse.

Have it replaced, there is no way to repair the glass without having optical distortion as a side effect. Not a good way to start the year.

You gotta go for a new windshield. Unless it's just a little "pit" or something similar, a fixed crack will reappear in Baltimore's hot and cold weather. That freeze and expansion is murder on windshields that have been repaired.

Windshield coverage is standard on auto policies in Ontario. I hope you have the same. But - the other guy should pay.

I'd be pissed, that's for sure.

L.Mini, I know EXACTLY how you feel. A few weeks ago I caught a rock which fell off a double-bottom gravel hauler on I-94. Took it right at the base of the windshield, almost dead center. Cracked about 1 1/2 inches, maybe a little less.

My son thought I was going to give myself a heart attack, I was so pissed! I couldn't wait for an appointment, I drove directly to an auto glass repair shop and they fixed it on the spot. They did a good job, now there is just a small dot visible...you would never notice it if you didn't know it was there.

If your crack isn't too large they will be able to fix it, no problem.

L.mini, The cold should not make it expand but using the defroster on high will, bring the inside temp up slow on the windshield

Too bad about your MINI, the bright side is you're OK. I'd rather change 10 windsheilds then fix one scratch in the hood or roof.

Are you getting any snow down there ?

BIG FUN here in northeast PA !

Later . . .

Marty

Well, it's good to know that they have some purpose besides hassling illegal aliens

Good luck on the windshield L.Mini...it's not snowing/icing down there today is it? If so, maybe cover your windshield tonight so that it's clean for the repair tomorrow.

No nothing here....just alot of rain. Apparently, later we are supposed to be hit with the famed Mid-Atlantic weather known as the "wintry mix".

I guess we should have left our cars in the garage today. My liitle buddy, Spud, took a stone half way up in the center of the windshield on the way to work today. It just left a small mark. No spider webbing or crack started yet. All I can do is watch it and see if it spreads. Poor Spud. How bad was yours? Did it crack or just leave a tiny mark?

PerfPow :???:

Sorry to hear about your windshield. That happened to me in another car, at freeway speeds. I thought that I was shot!

Isn't wintry mix when you make ice cubes from different juices and then put them in with your iced tea?

Good. That's the best thing to do. Don't get your insurance company involved uless it's a last resort.

Get (your MINI) well soon!

Sorry to hear about your windshield.

I had two spider cracks about the size of a nickel drilled and filled with epoxy on my Mercedes and they have held up for three years however they’re not in my line of sight so it doesn’t bother me. If you do have the windshield replaced just make sure whoever does the work are very experience and not some novice just starting out with the company. It may never be as good a bond as the factory seal (that may not be saying much based on some of the threads I have seen about leaking windshields from the factory) but you sure don’t need any additional problems. Good Luck!
