Is it worth waiting?

I've been hearing "stories" about what the last year (06) Mini "may" "might" have to seduce people into buying the last year of this model. Everything From Recaro seats to JCW from the factory...

Has anyone any insight into this yet?

Would it be worth the wait for the 06??

It might be worth the wait, since the 06's should start being built in August (I think ? You might be able to order in July and specify the '06? I just don't know. But I question how much "incentive" MINI is going to use. I don't think they are having trouble selling the cars and probably don't anticipate much trouble in the future.

If you don't "need" something right now, I'd wait a bit and see what kind of goodies are announced. Heck I might trade my '05!

Well, if the likehood of having a "final limited edition" MINI fitted with JCW add ons from the factory and Recaro seats is truly important to you, then sure wait a few more months for the '06s to come out. Production for the 2006 model year should start around July/August.

On the other hand, if you can do without some of the final year goodies, then you should be perfectly happy behind the wheel of a new '05 MINI.

All the "radical" and important changes that MINI had planned for the current R50/53 MINI generation, already took place at the beginning of the 2005 model year, so essentially the 2006's save the special edition cars are complete carry outs from the 2005 model year. Don't expect anything radical in terms of performance, engines or transmissions. Expect new color paints, some interior accessories and other cosmetics.

I wouldn't expect Mini to give a $$ incentive, -ever, well maybe if the economy crashes .

I expect to see a more "bang for that $$" -incentive...

Give me Recaros/ LTW rims/ bigger blower/ suspension/ brakes...Ya know, the whole JCW kit + some from the factory for another grand or so !!!
Then I'll buy the last year this model is made...And they start building that "wonderful new one "...

I doubt if they'll have to offer anything to seduce people into buying the last year of this model. After all its a proven item, and its a !great! item. There are a lot of unknowns with the '07. Like any new model, it is bound to have some issues that will need to be ironed out over the first year or two.

A factory installed JCW kit will save on installation costs associated with having the kit installed by JCW after the car has come off of the factory assembly line. Has it been confirmed that that's going to happen? If so, and if you've decided that you want the JCW, you could save a few bucks by waiting. Otherwise, there might just be an uptick on the price next year, like there was this year. After all the dollar's down against the Euro, and inflation is looking like a possibility. Its your call.

Have you been for a test drive yet? If not, check it out, then decide if you want to wait.

According to the local dealer here, they will likely have some "new" special edition models with special trim options. If that's your bag, wait. If what you want is available now, belly up to the bar and enjoy the ride.

If you don't NEED the MINI just yet then I would absolutely wait. It is clear now that the 2006 is going to have options or other goodies unavailable on the 05's. At worst you will probably have to wait 4 months to order and if lucky just another 2 after that to get it in. I'd absolutely wait.

Are you kidding me man??? Firstly, BMW will not have to do any "seducing" with the last year model because when people see the 07, they will be like, "Phark that one, have you got any of the old ones left??"

It is not worth waiting because our lives are short. One more year without a MINI is one too many!

Yeah, why is there so little news about the upcoming 2006 model year. All the MINI forums have all kinds of info about the 2007 model year, but next to nothing about the 2006 model year. I know there are not supposed to be any big changes for the 2006 model year, but these cars will start being produced in a few months and I have heard virtually nothing about them.

I am mainly concerned about price increases. Without an immediate price increase for the 2006 models, I might as well wait to buy a 2006 model this Fall, as opposed to buying a 2005 model this Summer. Of course, a substantial price increase for the 2006 models would quickly make me consider buying a 2005 model.

The price increase that took place on January 1, 2005 was announced well in advance. There was plenty of time to order and take delivery of a 2005 model if you wanted to beat the price increase. I hope any 2006 model price increases are announced well in advance also.

I think I am waiting, if nothing else I want the recaro seats. I love them they are so comfy, more so than the sport seats. I would be willing to give up the auto for a factory fit jcw, recaros and sports suspension

Thats it...

I really don't "need" it right this second. But when I do buy in I really want to make the best choice. I think I'll be giving the local dealer a call, try and shake some info loose.

If it's a substantial $$ hike, then I "may" consider just buying in now. But if not, I like the (rumors) of all the extras...
