Sloppy brochures?

OK, not meaning to nitpick here, but I have this beautiful MINI Convertible brochure that would make a great coffee table book, and must have cost a fortune to print, and the thing is so full of typos and grammatical errors that it would have earned me a C in a public relations class. Or did I just happen to get a draft copy? Perhaps later printings were fixed? Maybe they skipped the proofing process in order to get the things out the door in a hurry.

Of course, to exacerbate the problem, a MINI brochure is something one becomes intimately familiar with, after hundreds of thorough readings over many months of waiting for an ordered car to arrive. I think I have the thing memorized.

Is the hardtop brochure the same way?

Wow, I really need my car, and soon, if this is the level of detail I've resorted to.

Oh, and while I'm at the level of petty griping, why does the MINI USA website look so great but the Owner's Lounge look so, well, not great?

P.S. Hopefully no one from MINI USA will take this personally and alter my car order to include "extra rattles."

I feel better now. I think getting this off my chest will get me through another week of waiting.

Your car will be here soon, no worries! It'll be worth the wait

I have the hardtop one, and the only thing I've found so far was one of the titles of the pages was misspelled.

Let me get it and check..

Ahh, there it is. On the page that they detail the safety features, the top of the page reads "Let's breath easier." Forgot the E.

I too have been reading my convertible manual over and over during the wait. Normally I pick up typos as well but I have not noticed anything in the manual. Maybe I am just distracted by all the pictures of those beautiful cars.

If you can you tell me where one of the typos is, I'll check it against mine.

MINI's brochures and owner's manuals are prepared and printed in Germany. Keep in mind that these materials are written in several languages covering all countries where the MINI is currently sold.

I love the MINI sales brochures. The paper quality, the photos, etc are absolutely top notch.

I have collected brochures from all years (2002-2005) and will continue to do so.

My car is sitting at the port, waiting for a vessel. So I'm another 4-6 weeks out perhaps?

Pick a page.

OK, the Interior Equipment page, Cockpit Chrono Package section, 2nd paragraph: "The service interval display tells you when the car is due for its next oil change and change, and a...." Did they fix that one?

Seriously, I know it's not a big deal, but to see such a beautiful brochure marred with all the typos, well, it's like seeing a supermodel with a big festering pimple on her forehead. Sure, the complete package is stunning, but your eyes just keep going to that pimple...

"God," after all, "dwells in the details." (Thank you Mies van der Rohe).

I really, really need my car already.

The Manual for my previous car, a 94 325i, was horrible.
It contains lots of specification errors, such as the light bulb type! If I went to the store to buy new bulbs by referring to the manual, I would have bought the wrong type! It also described the way "lock" and "double-lock" operated wrong.

My point is that BMW isn't known for accurate printed material.

Thanks for propelling me back to my student days at S.R.Crown Hall where everyone quipped that line accompanied by either a roll of the eyes or an elbow nudge. I just went through my Mies books and pamphlets (and rummaged through Franz Schulze's biography) and found "Mies Van Der Rohe Twenty Five Years of Work In Chicago", printed by the Inland Architect in 1963 during Mies's lifetime featuring photos of his works accompanied by some of his famous pronouncements. I could not find that most famous of his quotes and I had been using it all these years. I wonder. Perhaps it is similar to "Play it again, Sam." Best wishes.

Where do you get those sales brochures? The only one the local dealer gave me was the "mini" fold-out brochure about the size of a coaster.

Those Germans may not be very good at printing brochures in English, but they sure do know how to invade a country!

P.S. - I am of German and Scottish ancestry!

I am willing to bet your MINI will be arriving at your dealer in under 4 weeks. 2 weeks on a boat, 1 week at port to dealer, and 1 week to prep. It will go by quick and soon you will be motoring away in your new MINI.
