Glove Box Door

Has a strange NACA ducting type slot in it. The owner's manual makes no mention of it. Does anyone know what it's for? It seems to be a good place to hold pens and keeps them from sliding around.

That's the intake slot for the RR Nene engine cleverly hidden under the dash. Maybe. The MINI Official Sunglass case fits there quite well, also.

Sunglasses.

btw, isn't that a brilliantly engineered door? The simple act of opening it dumps the contents!

Glove Box El Dumpo

Yes, I've had the open glove box and the contents el dumpo all over the place too. So far I have to agree that the best solution is not to open it!

Has anyone tried that thing they sell to put cubby holes in the glove box?

Let's see, my glove box has the manual, Swiss Army Knife players, iPod Mini, owner's manuel, air pressure gauge, a pen and that's pretty much full.

Sunglass holder, pen holder, drink holders. It's a very fancy door.Oh, and the bottom lip forces any contents to eject upon opening, as noted.

Solution: GBO, or GloveBox Organizer. MINI has one, or you can get one aftermarket (Moss, etc) OR you can get one from GoMiniGo

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=10856

Look later in the thread for the latest iteration of the design.

No affiliation, but I've bought one for me, and two for friends, and we all love them! It's a great, cost effective solution to an irritating problem.

My solution is open it once a month to get the tire guage and check the tires

I bought one of those official Glove Box Organizers a while back.....it really makes a big difference....makes the glove box usable....there's so little storage space in the MINI, so anything that gives me more storage is a plus.....I got mine from www.gotmini.com

I second the glove box organizer. I finally broke down and ordered one, and I think that it's the most practical accessory I purchased yet. No more glove box 'explosions'!

The only negative to the organizer is you can no longer fit gloves in the glove box with it installed!

Actually, I stuff the iPod Mini (small iPod) in the owner's manual so it doesn't get banged up by my humongous air pressure gauge!

Thanks to all for suggestions on the divider. I'll go the list of stuff for next trip to the States.

A glove box organizer is an essential accessory if you want to use your glove box for anything other that proving the concept of gravity.

I, too, highly recommend the GBO that GoMiniGo sells. It has three features not found in the other GBO offerings:
  1. He can build it in a number of colors to match your paint or interior;
  2. The material he uses is more substantial than other units I have seen;
  3. The cubby portion next to the A/C vent in the glove box is big enough to hold a drink can on its side and keep it nice and cool.
Not to mention that you are supporting a fellow MINI member.

I have had mine for about a year or so and it has held up extremely well considering all the crap I stuff into the glove box. And, it is so nice to be able to open the door without a safety net to catch all the stuff falling out!

Theo

P.S. Does anyone want about 35 Wendy's ketchup packets from the fall of 2003?

Kleenex Juniors!

Another vote for the glove box organizer. I got mine from MiniMania - not sure if it's the factory one or not, but it fits well and looks nice.

I've got a bit of a cold right now, and I just discovered yesterday that the lower center compartment is just the right size to hold a Kleenex "Juniors" box of tissues. Yay!

I have my aux input in the standard place, inside the glovebox, and my MP3 player fits fine in the upper left space, right there. (Although, if I had it to do again, I think I'd put it in the Euro shelf area - easy to reach the MP3 player to turn it off and on, skip tracks, etc.

Just slides right in. Takes much more time to open the box than to install it! And unlike before the GBO, you don't have to root around to find things afterwards.

It's a quick and easy install - - took all of about a minute and a half to do the job.

It's a must have, along with the Euro parcel shelf.

so.........what do people put on the door of the glovebox......I use that one pen holder, and also put one tissue pkg in that recessed area but it looks lost in there.....when the door is left open, those 8 or so little slots could be coinholders, altho while you're driviing with the glove door open, things will spill out if you accelerate or go uphill, and are those supposed to really be cupholders on that door??
