You need to look at both at the dealership when you get a chance.
Some thoughts-
Hyper Blue
Metallic paint add $420
Very similar but slightly lighter than indi blue
Comes with blue, black or white roof.
Can be ordered with matching dash and door ovals in hyper blue
Matches blue lapis leather
Looks nice with white roof, bonnet stripe, mirrors, and wheels
Clear coat can scratch easily
Jet Black
solid color- no cost option
All black is classy, a "power" color
Black is hard to keep clean and shows water spots
Looks really sharp with white roof/wheels/mirrors
Looks sharp with chrome wheels, exterior trim, and mirrors.
Looks really really sharp with black or anthracite wheels with silver polished lip.
Matches black seats or grey/black leatherette or space cloth.
Black tends to be hot in the summer
Looks racy with dark silver painted wheel arches, side aero skirts and bumper trim.
Black is a rare color- more unique.
Lends itself to checkerboard theme (stripes, roof, mirrors)

Black. The dealer I ordered my car from said that they had never seen a black Mini and didn't think it would look good and even tried to talk me into Indy blue (other color i was thinking off). I went with black because I love black cars and thought that it would look great. When my car came in and I was on my way to pick it up they told me 7 people tried to buy it. The dealer ordered two more black Minis on the spot.
Lots of pics of mine here to help you decide:

If you do go with black, I definitly recommend a black interior with silver trim, bits of chrome on the outside, and tinting the windows. It really makes the car look sharp.

Hmmm, this could be like debating the best beer or wine...
Although I am partial to high-gravity beers and would much rather have the spare time to sample said beers, instead of constantly washing a black vehicle...

then comes the question "what color the roof is going to be" body color, white, black. if you go for the black body color make sure you get the white roof. with hyper blue white or black looks good. no body color roofs. to me its just not a mini then.
Black!

I just loaded some pics in my gallery if you want to check them out.
Course, either way you ARE getting a Mini!

All that said I like the black, but ordered the HB, since I know keeping the black looking like show room condition would be a nightmare. I have read that the HB is also somewhat difficult to keep clean though

BTW, HB/B looks better than HB/W, just my opinion though

Me likey the black
I didn't order my car so I chose one the dealer had so I am glad after owning it for a year I still love the black/black color scheme. Never owned a black car before and I am a clean car fiend. It's not nearly as bad as I thought. Lots of flat panels on the MINI makes it easy to clean and dry. Looks great when it's clean. However you must follow your heart on this one. It's a great problem to have....
I ordered a Jet Black MCS with white roof/mirrors/wheels over Hyper Blue. I put the money I would have spent on metallic paint into the LSD option. I do like both colors but I put more worth on the LSD.

I wanted to get black, but I was worried about keeping it looking new as well, and I've heard many people say "I will never own a black car again". I decided to go with HB/HB and I am very happy with it, but I think the black would look better, as long as you can keep it scratch free (which would be nearly impossible).

I only have a few as I don't have a digital camera yet.

I think from a purely artistic standpoint, the MINI has great curvaceous surfaces, and I think a lot of that's lost in black. Blue would highlight the curves better and make the car sexier.
The black is the business though. My last car was black and my next car will be black
Look at it this way- you can't go wrong!!

I love the look of some cars in jet black when they are clean and shiny. Other cars just blend in and look kind of boring in black. The Mini is the first, looks great in black when its immaculate and glossy. Nevertheless, I'm one of those 'i'll never own a black car again' people - it was too painfull for me.
Maybe I'll bit the bullet someday when I have a fleet of exotic cars and a full time detailer
On the other hand I chose the HB because I loved the depth of color and brights of the metallic highlights when I saw it under varying lighting.
In the end you're living with it, pick what you love and want to look at

If you do an all black MCS you have to put chrome on that baby!
Someone in our club has a late 2004 MCS, all Jet Black, with black aero honeycomb grille, black custom rims and driving lights. It looks sweet. This is a weekend car, so it stays in the garage most of the week. Under those circumstances, a black car is no brainer.
But for a daily driver is a different story. Also black cars are a hard sell in the sunbelt states, because they are hot vehicles in the summer time.
Hyper Blue is a nice color, but it lacks the impact of the late Indy Blue and the current Electric Blue.
