R50/53 Question
Question
Hi all,
I'm not the mechnical know-all type of car owner so please excuse me if i sound at all ignorant. I have been hearing this loud fan like noise from the engine, it sounds like when you have your air-con turned on, except it's not.
It doesn't sound "out of place" or like the car's in danger of exploding lol, it's just i've never heard it before since owning the MINI and it hasn't affected the drivability of the car. It bascially comes and goes. For instance, i was driving in 4th gear at 60km/h and the noise was present. Then it subsided a few seconds later. Later on i was driving up the driveway to park the car and when i stepped out the car began to emit the noise again. The noise is a vaccum like sound in the middle or front of the engine.
I was wondering if i'm just being paranoid?
Thanks guys and gals

I have heard that uning your defrost will throw the A/C compressor on? Not sure if this is true, but think about this... Defrost needs dry air to remove the moisture from the vehicle, and your A/C compressor will provide it for you.
I have heard many drivers turning on their A/C in all types of weather to keep the seals in use allowing for a longer life.

I run my a/c about once a week, even in the winter,to keep the seals lubed
If the fan stays on after driving hard, it happens some times. If it's constantly happening take it in to the dealer. The fan and cooling/water system are directly connected.
