Another update: went back to dealership today.

I went to my dealership again today (this was trip #3). Luckily, it's warm and the sun is out, so it was a good day to go convertible shopping.

First of all, after experiencing the convertible for the first time, I have no doubt in my mind that it's what I want. I like the convertible a LOT better. I still love the hardtop, and I think it's a bit sportier, but it's a trade-off. So at least I have that part down, the cabrio it is...

Now on to the color. For those of you who saw my thread on the cool blue, well, I saw it in person today. I have to say, my worst fear was correct. I thought (in the direct sunlight), the color had a very pink-ish tone to it, making the car look purple. I definitely think it looks a bit more "girly" than the other colors, but for some reason I still love it. I've never seen anything like it before, on any car, and that is what I like about it. I also saw the hot orange again, inside the showroom, and in the direct sunlight. I love that color as well. I'm really leaning toward the cool blue, but I need to bring one of my friends down with me and get a second opinion. I need someone to tell me it's not a chick color, just to put my mind at ease.

I picked up the convertible brochure while I was down there, and when I get back from vacation (next month) I should be about ready to order.

So there you have it...at least I'm making progress.

oh, btw...I didn't think the rear visability was that bad. From the reviews I read, I was expecting NO view out the rear window at all. It didn't seem much worse than any other small convertible.

Personally, I think cool blue is effeminate, but that is just a personal opinion. I also REALLY like hot orange, especially with the blue top and blue/orange interior and orange dash

^^^^Agreed! If you feel that you need someone to validate your hopes that it is not a "chick' color, then you may regret the color in the future. The orange however, is a very cool color that looks great. So if you really like the blue, and don't care what others think, get it, otherwise, you migt want to stick with the orange

I love the Cool blue... but I'm a lady. I find it to look very lavendar-ish. Hot Orange is... well... Hot. Glad to hear you made a final decision on the Cabrio part.

We chose the Cool Blue for several reasons.

1st - our 02' is CR and we didn't want the Cabrio to be the same color.

2nd - we wanted a color that was SPECIFIC to the Cabrio only - which gave us two choices, Cool Blue and Orange. I personally do not like the Orange. I just don't like the color in anything - not meaning to offend anybody who likes the Orange. It's a personal choice for all of us.

Although I drive the Cabrio most - Mike does not think it's a "girly" color at all.

Bottom line, you have to choose the color that makes you happy...

Hot Orange for MINI #3

Hi All,

We visited the local dealerships yesterday trying to decide between Cool Blue and Hot Orange. Decided on Hot Orange, Blue top, Blue leather with orange stitching, and the orange dash & door surrounds. Once that decision was made, the rest was easy. We called Julie at Classic and presto, our car is on order. Have our production number and a late February build for our MCSa cabrio. Now we're looking for other CA buyers to "discover" Julie at Classic MINI and order a car too, so we can fill a truck to CA and save lots of money on shipping too.

Know anyone interested in buying an '03 Boxster S with less than 2k miles on it?

Like I've said before, go with your gut!! My sister, mom, and husband all had different color choices in mind . . . so in the end it had to be my decision. (It is my car afterall!!)

As far as visibility, I have to disagree with ya. I had a Toyaota Celica Convertible and even with the plastic back I could see a hell of a lot better! I think it's also b/c I am very short . . . even with the "pump" seats my MINI has huge visibility issues. Luckily, I am used to using my side mirrors . . . believe it or not, a lot of people don't use them at all.

All that being said, I LOVE my MINI and I am sure you will love yours too!!

I think the orange is a great color; I like it better than red as far as being hot and sporty. The cool blue is very nice, but understated (of course this is just my opinion). In my MC hatchback, I went with PW/B because I also felt it was less sporty and more understated than, for example, the CR/W. I also have to add that I have never seen a picture of a hot orange cabrio or have never seen it in person in any light where I didn't think it looked great. The cool blue, on the other hand, sometimes looks beautiful to me and other times, depending on the light, looks drab. Not to say it isn't nice, but it doesn't "pop" like the orange does all the time.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

I'm going to stick with my original choice of hot orange.

Well, since you let us influence you, why don't you take your friend with you to the dealership just to see what he says? Then you can be even more confused

Seriously, see what your friend says and let us know. I have a feeling he'll also love the hot orange

It's not even that much that the visibility is poor out the rear window (probably like most soft top cars). It's when the top is down you really can't see much if you turn around and look to the back corner of the car.

You should post in the regional forum on mini2 ahead of time if you are going to MINI of Peabody. A bunch of us depending on schedules would be sure to hop over there if we knew.
