Silly key/transmitter question

One of the master keys I received will not operate the locks, etc. remotely. It does work the door lock and ignition manually. The master key I drove off the lot with works in all situations.

Is the battery for the suspect key in need of a charge? Can this been done with the key just sitting in the ignition (not turned) ?

Sorry for the silly question. The owner's manual did not help me.

Thanks!
Erik

yes,you need to charge the battery in the transmitter. I'm not sure if it works if you just stick the key in, I would think that it works, but probably better if you just use it for a few days.

"In every master key there is an
extended-life battery that is
charged automatically in the ignition
lock as you drive.
Therefore, use any otherwise unused
master key for a longer journey every six
months so that its battery can be
charged." - Page 24

Yes, I read this. I was just making sure there wasn't some magical sequence to get the other transmitter to work.

Sorry if I came off a bit blunt. Didn't mean it that way!

I though the question was along the lines of being able to charge it by simply placing it in the ignition slot, without turning on the car or driving at all. I'm not sure when you'd have the time to leave your key in the car, but that seemed to me to be the question. Guess i read wrong

The question is, "Will it charge with the ignition off?" Maybe, but I doubt it.

The highlighted portion would seem to suggest that the ignition must be on. Anyone know for sure?

I've left the suspect key in the ignition (turned off) tonight. I'll report back tomorrow if it works.

Heck, it is my problem

I thought you might be considering leaving it in the garage, but I was also hoping that you wouldn't in case someone tries to steal your car. Luckily no one hear knows your address or there might be some trouble. Anyways, it'll be interesting to get the report, and hopefuly your car is still there in the morning.

the reason why I ask is that I just tried my spare key that has not been near my car since I bought it one year ago and it works fine with the same range as my usual key

an 04 MC dec 03 build

The 2002-2004 cars had the older style key which did not recharge in the ignition.
