Alright.....What's up with cool blue?

I have not seen this color in person yet, but I have have seen tons and tons of pictures of it. Here's the problem, the color looks different in EVERY picture.

In some pictures it almost looks like a blue-grey, in others it looks like a very feminine powder blue, and in some it even looks purple. Some of the pictures I've seen make me say, "wow, I want this color"...and other pictures leave me thinking, "hmm, it kinda looks like something my girlfriend should be driving, not me."

Does anyone have a picture of the cool blue that they think is accurate?

I have to get back down to the dealership soon, but in the time being, it's driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance.

I think you will find that this is the case with most colors...especially the metallic ones. BRG looks black in the shade but in the sun the green is really nice.

I think the new purple changes moreso than the blue but it's hard to tell.

This is an example of what I mean:

I think THAT looks pretty cool, and I'd consider ordering my MCC in that color.....it looks like a steel blue, very sporty.

But in some pics the color looks like a baby blue, sometimes with a purple tint.

Any cool blue owners out there, can you comment on this?

That picture above looks pretty accurate to me. I have seen it in person a few times. Once when I was ordering my MCS. I think that I may have gone with the color had it been available (1) In the coupe (2) With body color dash.

It is definately (IMHO) closer to a steel blue than a baby powder blue.

Of course all colors look different on different monitors. That's the problem.

I had the same problem with Hyper Blue. I finally ordered it sight unseen and then took a trip down to another dealer that had it in stock a month or so later. It looks way better in person than on a screen. You should really see whatever color you choose in person, or you will be wondering about it and second guessing yourself until you get the car.

Yeah, I have to get back down to my dealership and check out some more colors. I have seen the hot orange in person, and I really liked it, but I am already second guessing myself. First of all, my parents are telling me that it's a "fad" color, and I may get sick of it quickly. I agree with them to a point. Secondly, I want a black interior, and the orange car with a black interior looks kinda, well...goofy. All I can think of is Halloween when I see that combo. I do like it with the blue top/interior, but I don't feel like spending $1300 on the leather, when I prefer the leatherette anyway.

All I know is I don't want a common color like black or silver. You can get those colors on any car, and every other car on the road is one or the other. I want something cool, and unique to the MINI. This 'aint no Honda Accord, and I don't want a bland color. That's why I was originally drawn to the orange as soon as I decided on the 'vert, but since I'm already becoming a bit sick of it in just a week, I'm kinda nervous. Time will tell I suppose.

I keep changing my mind, but I think that's because I haven't really taken the time to seriously look at each color in person. The initial excitement of "knowing I'm getting a MINI" hasn't quite worn off yet, and I'm going crazy. I think I've wanted my MINI in every color at one point or another over the last couple months...a bit embarassing.

It's time to slow down, stop being dumb, and get serious. Having said that, the cool blue looks like a really sweet color, and definitely one I need to check out in person before I make any decisions.

Cool blue is an enigma!! I have seen several pics and seen it in person and the color changes ALL the time!! My sister swore it was purple/lavender -- my husband thinks it more powder blue and I don't know what it is!!

I eneded up going with Chili Red, but Cool Blue was my second choice. (A friend of mine got the cool blue and I didn't want to copy cat!)

Cool Blue is a BEAUTIFUL color and I don't think it's too "girly". That being said, go with your gut -- pick the color YOU want!

Kyle, I don't think my Wanda is boring! Here she is at a military beach near Destin, Florida.

My dear friend, Donna, has the Cool Blue MCSC and it is definitely not baby blue! It is a great color with the navy top. She got the navy leather with contrasting orange stitching, which is like jeans! Very, very cool!!!

But, yeah....you have to go to your dealership and look at the MINIs. When you look at the little color samples, it is very hard to determine the true color. And look at the MINIs outside in natural light, too! The showroom lighting can be deceiving.

Good luck with whichever you choose! You will be happy once you hop into your own and motor off in it!

Kyle,

Have we changed our mind again:smile: When did you start thinking about a Cabrio? Now you are right up my alley I love my BRG Cabrio Even better than my first MINI a 03 CR/B. The Cabrio I test drove was Cool Blue & it was remarkable how it kept changing colors. Most of the time it was a steel blue shade but in bright sunlight it had a purplish cast to it. It was very unusual. A lot of people think BRG is boring but like Clover's black MINI, it is very rich & classy looking. At least I think so. BTW, I've seen & rode in Wanda & she is quite THE MINI

Cool Blue is the only color that is pearlescent and according to MINI it can appear grey or a dazzling blue.

The Cool Blue does look different depending on the light. Here is a picture a good friend of ours took on the lot at Sterling before it was shipped out here to CA. It's a pretty true representation. I love it...

Saw a cool blue MCC today and it had a strong mauve thing happening. My son identified it as "purple". I had to agree.

I don't blame you for being uninspried by the color choices. IMO Mini really dropped the ball on the color front. Boring.

Second guess? SECOND GUESS?? Kyle, I think you passed second a while ago . Not that I don't empathize . Just don't make the mistake of talking yourself out of a MINI!

Any way you can make it down to Vegas for AMVIV? You'd get to see over a hundred MINIs and probably as many interior/exterior combinations. Besides, it will be warm and there won't be any mud.

My only word of caution is to remember that the black plastic trim on any MINI represents a significant block of color. I've seen a cabrio with a green top and contrasting body color. Add a lot of black exterior trim to that and it looked to me like it had a bit too much going on.... IMHO.

minims, I think Kyle is 18 or 19, so a trip to Vegas might not be as much fun for him, and I don't think he'd be allowed in the casinos. BTW....I think there will be WAAAAAAAAAAAY more than 100 MINIs! Last year there were more than 220!!!

Kyle, don't be embarrassed by your indecision... most of us went through the same thing... smitten by the car, but unsure of the "perfect" color choice. Chances are, you will love whatever color you get.

In my neck of the woods there are so few MINI's that no color is common!

Dogspeed.

one of each!

I too wavered on my color choice and now that I've had my car for 9 months I wouldn't say I have any regrets.

The issue is that the MINI is cool in all colors. Belonging to a MINI club is great because you get to spend time with all kinds of MINIs

I think the problem is that to be truly satisfied I would need about 20 MINI's and just drive the one that suits my mood that day! LOL

It is hard to make that choice but once your driving you will be happy no matter what color blur people see when you go by.

I really like the cool blue color. Haven't seen one in person but the pic of the MCC on the owners lounge is hot!

Good luck!

Don't forget "purple haze", it changes color in every light. The cool blue is great. We are adding some cool blue accents to our purple haze car.

O.K., here is the deal with Cool Blue. My wifes MCSc is Cool Blue w/ navy top & it is "Cool"!! Seriously, the posted pic is very accurate. We think the car is very good looking, a bit upscale compared to some of the available colors, and everyone (Male & Female), who sees it loves it. It is not a "girl" color IMHO. I did post some pics in "my gallery" under some weird lighting conditions, and it does change color a bit. It is almost iridescent at times. I do not know how to attach a link to those pics, I guess you just go to UGO44 gallery?
BTW, the Hot Orange is nice too.

Excellent minims! I believe that's a big problem with the MINI's aesthetics.

On the one hand the black parts draw attention to the little bits of the car thereby breaking down its visual mass and making the MINI look smaller and cuter than it is. However the shape of those black parts detracts from the car's appearance from certain angles. The black around the wheel arches and rocker panels look okay, but the front and tail lack conviction (especially the tail where it looks like rubber trim). In some colors the MINI looks especially busy from behind (MCS more than MC). The aero features help resolve the visual conflicts, but at a hefty price.

Several folks on NAM have admitted to changing color schemes often prior to making the final decision. Perhaps one reason is the difficulty in reconciling the body color to the black parts.

XAlfa mentioned the poor choice of colors. The MINI comes in many colors so it might seem an odd remark. I happen to agree with it. For example, to me it is odd that MINI would promote Union Jack cosmetics while not offering BRG (or the classic Mini's medium green) as a non-metallic standard cost color. But BMW did not consult me so I can only gripe about this.

I am now dead set on the Cabrio. I am not even considering the hardtop anymore. In fact, I always liked the cabrio a bit better, but didn't want to spend the extra money. The problem was, I kept adding more and more options to my hardtop, and I quickly got up to about $23k. I figured, if I'm up to that much, I might as well go all out and get the cabrio. It was either going to be the S with the sunroof, or the Cooper Cabrio.

Plus, the nice weather we had a week or so ago in New England swayed me a bit.

But now that I'm getting the cabrio, that adds even MORE colors, making my choice even harder.

I can guarantee I'll end up with either the hot orange or the cool blue. I'm leaning toward the cool blue, just because it's a bit classier and easier to live with than the "in your face" orange. I still haven't seen it though, hopefully I'll make it down tomorrow.

I love the cool blue. It is my color of the month. (I change my mind so often...) The cool blue does change depending on the light and time of day... BEAUTIFUL.

Great with the blue top and the dark blue leather interior... white stripes...

Regards, Glenn
