R50/53 Support Group for DoD overseas MINI buyers
Hi!
I thought this might be an easily accessable place to collect comments, suggestions and tips for overseas buyers of US spec MINIs. I was suprised by the lack of official support DoD buyers receive. I thought we could, instead, help each other out. Just a thought...
Finally have a production number! Yay....

Hello!
I am not overseas, but am employed by the DoD. Where are you stationed? Got pics of the '71?

Bought mine overseas in Germany. I'll be happy to try and answer any questions that you might have. The hardest part was the wait...

Copy of post I made in the Can't wait till Feb Club)
I thought that I would be in the Feb Club but I have been getting disturbing news from my dealer lately.
I was told my Mini S was to go into production this month and delivered in mid to late Feb 03. Now my dealer is telling me that BMW AG may not be able to ship the car to me here in Korea!
I ordered my Mini thru Kolon Motors BMW Military Sales in Oct...only after the dealer told me that the car was available thru military sales here in Korea. (the car is not yet being made available thru Korean BMW). I gave the dealer a BIG deposit and he processed my order and got an order confirmation from BMW AG. I made arrangements thru my bank for an auto loan that was approved that day too.
I have sent 3 emails to BMW AG military sales department and also to Mini Int asking what the deal is on this. So far all I have received for the past 2 weeks is emails from both stating that the questions I have had been forwarded to the appropriate department.
My dealer is also avoiding my emails and phone calls. All he says is that it is up to BMW AG if I will get the car. My dealer was either miss-led from BMW Military Sales on the availability and delivery of the car to Korea.....or he just decided to place th order without all the facts and hope for the best....and to get a commission if the car was to be delivered.
I told my dealer to give an answer this week...yes..or...no on the production and delivery. If I do not get an answer I will cancel my order and get my deposit back.
If there are any of you out there that can give me some good contacts at BMW AG or BMW Int I would appreciate it a lot. I want to get to the bottom of this issue ASAP. mailto:webmaster@internetpromotions.biz please

Update.......
My dealer just emailed me as asked me to wait till at least Sunday and if there is no word from BMW AG Military Sales by then I can go get my deposit back. Unfortunately I will probably never be able to get a Mini here if this happens.
I had thought about purchasing in the states and having one shipped but the MSRP is way to high stateside.
So I will just have to sit here for the next 2 days hoping for good news.
BMW AG Military Sales and Mini Military Sales still have not replied to my emails yet.....

Thanks for the messages everyone. I was thinking this would be a cool gathering place as it doesn't seem that we're able to join official MINI websites with our production numbers and (so I've heard) VIN numbers. The whole story of Korean MINIs sounds really fishy...how can a dealer sell you something he can't deliver on? Jeesh, he should give you some interest on that $!
I was also wondering about the warranty. Can you buy more than just a year? If you go back to the States before the time is up does it transfer...if you return after the first year but before three years would anything still be covered? How about service over here? Sounds like I'm obsessing, reading through this message, but really I'm not, just playing 20 questions I guess.. and waiting not too patiently. You were right about the wait kdog. Sweet S's you guys... mine too will be DS/B. Also we are in the process of rebuilding the '71 and want to repaint it. Haven't decided on Black/White or BRG/White w/ stripes... decisions decisions  Life is sooo tough
ps I've no clue how to add an image, but our '71 is a robin's egg shell blue.... it has been called ugly in the past... but not by me!

Thanks for posting this subject. I bought an '03 MC (CVT, all the packages) from Pentagon Auto Sales in Heidelberg while TDY there last July. Just took delivery before Thanksgiving. So far 1,000 miles and doing great but I am getting a little concerned about being a second class owner.
Can't access the Owner's Lounge and still no waranty in hand. I mailed the forms provided by the dealer to BWM NA so am hopeful that will do the trick. They never responded to my email about access to web site.
Anybody who has brought their MINI back home know anything about the NA warranty?
