Well the saga continues...now that I have my car back Im driving into the parking lot at work today and it stalls, almost sending me into an SUV. What is up with these cars? god. I am afraid to even bring it in as I just got the damn thing back and dont wanna be stuck with a rental again.

What kinds of problems have you been experiencing with your Mini? The only thing that I've noticed so far after having my Mini for 1 month and 1 day is that the DSC and the Run Flat Warning lights would come on for some unknow reason and stay on. They eventually turn off if I turn off the engine for a while and let the car sit. Once I startup the car again and begin driving after letting it sit the warning lights turn off. It's only done that twice to me. It happened the on my third day of having my Mini and then again just about 3 hours ago.

I'd take it to the dealer but it's my experience with car problems and dealers that if you can't get the problem to happen in front of them then they can't fix it. So I'm waiting until the next time it happens and hopefully the lights will stay on before I could bring it to the dealer. Hopefully the lights will never come on again unless there's a real problem.

Another thought is that since the engine of the Mini was a joint effort between BMW and Chrystler this may explain the sudden stall. I've know several people who drove Chrystler vehicles and the engine would just stop. I mean stop... My aunt was driving her Sebring on the highway one day and the car just stopped running. Fortunately she was able to coast to the shoulder of the road. It could be electrical problems that you are experiencing. That was the problem in my aunt's case.

Right now I'm driving an '89 Dart that it's like new (only 106,000 kms), it never gave me any problem. I recomend you to change your Mini for another Mini. That will solve your problems. Don´t worry be *happy.

I'm sorry to hear you'r having all sorts of strange problems. Maybe you should look into rejecting the car. I have had a couple of problems with my 'S', The leaky O ring and th bootlatch problem, but they have both been fixed. Otherwise I am happy with it. Actualy I have rattly doors but I'm trying to fix that myself. Not exactly sure where the rattle is!

Dude, you seem to just have the worst luck with cars. I've had my S since June, I've got 6000 miles approx on it and I have not had the first problem with it. If your car makes you this unhappy (as edvidenced by your posts) then move on and get rid of it. Someone else would love to have it i"m sure.

Just got my S back from MINI.. lights (ABS, DSC, Flat) intermittently coming on.

The dealer sorted it by reprogramming the control units. Got an S loan car!

NYIllustrator is experiencing probably THE most frustrating thing around: Loving a car and being sOOOOOO glad to own it and then having it turn on you!!!!

A little sympathy is in order.

Man, you gotta figure out your Karma though! How many monkeys did you step on????

I agree, a little sympathy is in order. There is nothing in NYIllustrator's post that should warrant such negative reactions.
What's wrong with you people? Grow up.

Well the saga continues...
Oh man, I know the feeling. I had my 2k2 Neon in the shop on 7 different occasions in the first two months of owning it. No rentals ever given to me either...

now that I have my car back Im driving into the parking lot at work today and it stalls, almost sending me into an SUV. What is up with these cars?
I think there's been some posting around here about stalling issues being linked to the throttle body.

god. I am afraid to even bring it in as I just got the damn thing back and dont wanna be stuck with a rental again.
Don't worry, the joy of driving it afterhaving another rental will be well worth it. I hope you don't get stuck with another Saturn.

Motor on.

Wishin' ya the best,
Dominic (future MCS owner)

You may want to check on the Lemon Laws in your state.

You may be eligable for a new car considering the time you have been w/o your Mini.

My first VW GTI was a Lemon. It spent over 3 weeks in the shop in the first 2 months of ownership. The problems ranged from a bad heater core to the clutch & brake peddles falling off of the firewall, leaking oil, leaking sunroof, failed windshield wiper motor, the list goes on. As a result VW gave me a new GTI with more options than the one I bought at the same price as the original.

Check the lemon laws, you might get a new car.

Rude? Go back and read the horrible posts he originally posted about the problems with his car.

He did a lot of yelling but didn't take a lot of responsibility for the sky falling.

I'm not trying to be mean. I'm absolutely serious. He needs to evaluate how he's responding to these problems/situations.

I don't think he exhausts all possible options at the dealer before he goes off on a pouty, passive-aggressive rant about "how the Mini sucks!" and "how the dealer sucks!" and "how the saturn sucks!" and "how the rental agency sucks!"

(shrug)

-Jim

One good thing that comes with age: Perspective.

NY Illustrator is just venting with a group of people he thought were comerades. Sheesh!

Gain some perspective from his point of view!

This has nothing to do with the other posts. This post has none of the ranting that was in the previous post. Maybe he has gained some "perspective", I don't know, but you people are jumping down this guy's throat for stating his car's problems. Maybe you need to put this into perspective (like TMGRobyn said) This is supposed to be a supportive forum, remember?

I think it does.

I'm not jumping down his throat, I'm trying to help him. I'm responding in kind to the way he's treated us; without kid gloves or any kind of veneer.

He's not looking for help, he's trying to be confrontational. If he is looking for help it's going to get lost in the bitterness and people aren't going to help him fix his car. Imagine if you're the person that is going to fix his car or rent him a car. If that's the way he is to THEM too then I wouldn't do him any favors if I were them.

Let me rewrite his post in a way that isn't whining, but rather a real solicitation for advice, help or just comfort.

"Well, the saga continues...now that I have my car back I was driving into the parking lot at work and it stalled out. I nearly hit an SUV in the process! There seems to be something chronically wrong with my car. I really don't want to take it back to the dealer as I just got it back and don't really want a rental again.
Have any of you had something similar (insert something more detailed than "it just stalled out". What gear, speed, etc.)happen to you? Can any of you offer a suggestion or perhaps someone I could call to resolve this and possibly escalate it?

Thanks so much!

Treat others as you wish to be treated. That is E X A C T L Y what I am doing. He's still painting all of our cars as being the same as his.

So, I'm trying to help him.

Addendum.

In all situations but in particular this one, try to make people want to help you not want to get rid of you.

I'm willing to bet that the attitude started before the poor service. Anyone care to bet against me?

If not, go to another dealer. You're in NY. Many to pick from in the area!
