Rear hatch seal

Can someone help, i have tried 4 different seals and none seem to work and i cant continue this project until I fix this leak so my battery isn’t drowned in water. I have tried to put seals on the hatch door itself and still it leaks. I am starting to feel defeated… any ideas? I really don’t want to buy a brand new seal for $300 and it did not work and deal with the hassle of returns and refund. You can see a gap in the top left corner when looking inside out.. mini really screwed up on these seals…

Is the trunk lid grip handle seal leaking or do you have a sunroof with drain tubes that leak/clogged?

^^^ +1 on a leaking sunroof which is a common problem. Have you sprayed the hatch with a hose to either ID or eliminate it as the water source?

cooper48 makes a good point.
Also (as I've heard), the third brake light and antenna gasket are also a possible area to check for water intrusion.

I third the hose trick.

The gap you mentioned… Is that when the hatch is closed? If so, it may need adjustment, perhaps?

Good question regarding the gap that can be viewed from the inside out. I don't have my Bentley manual with me at the moment but I'm wondering if the hatch itself has any alignment capability(?)...

It does. I believe it’s adjustable at the hinges, buffers, and latch, IIRC. I seem to remember the body guys had a little trouble aligning mine to not leak.
