mmm... new car smell

I believe the new car smell that a MINI has is unique compared to other cars. Is there any way to keep this new "MINI" smell around longer?

Yeah, buy a new MINI every three months

I'll bet someone on e-bay sell a spray can of new car smell. Just checked it out and I win

It's like $3.00 a bottle.

Just out of curiousity, what's different about the MINI new car smell? I didn't notice much on my test drive, but considering it was a demo car, maybe the smell had worn off.

Mmmm....There's nothing like the smell of aromatic hydrocarbons on a warm day!

The leatherette certainly is unique in smell. I really like it.

You know, I always liked the OLD car smell, like an old restored muscle car.
What makes that smell? Is it the carpet? the foam in the seats?
I wish they could bottle that aroma into some sort of spray.

mmm... Nice new leatherette smell

I don't know, it just smells different from other new cars I've been in. I think I going with iamwiz82 on this one i'm thinkin' it's the leatherette, mostly because I've sat in several leather outfitted MINIS and they all smell different from mine.

Hmm...Now I want mine even more.

I'm MUCH more excited about this purchase than I was when I got my first car.

The first time I used a car wash, the service guy that comes up to your window to ask what 'level' of service you want asked "New car, or Lemon?"

And I thought "well, this isn't a new car, but it isn't a lemon either!" Then I laughed out loud when I realized he meant what scent I wanted for the interior cleaning!

(By the way, I was in a Toyota--this was long ago.)

Last summer I replaced my MINI rubber floor matts with new ones and suddenly my MINI smelled like new! It was great! Now, maybe it wasn't the exact same smell that the car had when new... whatever that was, I can't recall... but it smelled great!

It always perplexes me why most people (including myself) love the smell of plastics out-gassing . But I will see about the MINI having a different smell in 2 weeks when mine comes. But mine will have cloth interior so maybe not.

Aw this thread brought back the pleasant memories of when my MINI arrived The first drive is Oh so wonderful and...smells so good I Also have the leatherette and agree that it’s a different scent than all my other cars interiors

If I buy a new car after the smell wears off I could have a mini in Every color possible I like that idea .... time to start saving!

On warm days I can still faintly smell the new car smell. Mmmmmm.

After my recent service, the techs washed it and cleaned the inside with something. Now my MINI smells like a giant Altoid. Very nice. I need to ask them what they used.

I got a comment yest. on the unique new smell of my MCS!

"This is the second new MCS I've been in, and the first thing I notice is the unique new smell!"

It was news to me, I mean I knew I liked it, but I didn't realize it was so different.

You know I actually read over in one of those magazines - MAXIM, FHM, STUFF (one of those) - that that smell is actually created by some of the adhesives used to put the car together- interesting, eh.

Yeah, I commented about the smell in a new house and was informed the carpet and paneling was releasing adhesive odors with an overtone of formaldehyde!

Mmmmm, formaldehyde.
