Jan Issue of GoMINI Magazine...
I recently found out that the latest issue of GoMINI Magazine has a small writeup about my MINIblog website minimechanic.com on pg 73 "best of the web" section.
Just thought that was cool- they didn't even contact me or anything- I found out from someone emailing me.
neat.

cant get it here anymore
Sounds nice, but GO MINI was yanked off our local bookstore shelves a few months back as another "unsellable" Brit mag. The last one I bought (issue #5) was at a "Hastings" in Altus, Oklahoma, pop 2,000.
Yup you can get it in Altus but not in Denver

Just found the Dec/Jan issue at our local (25 miles away) Hastings. Bought it and really enjoy Go MINI.
So the wife looked at me while I was reading and said, "Good magazine? Can you get you a subscription?? Why don't get you one???"
So in about 10 minutes I had one!! I'll not miss another issue!!!!
Congrats Plxmxr on the inclusion!! I checked out the site and I like it!!!!!!!!

Hmm, hadn't thought of the Tattered Cover. I always like an excuse to go to Cherry Creek when I'm in Denver.
I just found out that Tower Records carries it in the Chicago area. Never would have thought of looking there.

I checked Tower in Cherry Creek, no luck. TC lodo and CC: no luck (but i don't know if they were just out--I'll check back again soon.) Media Play, no luck. Forget B&N and Borders, they had 'em and yanked 'em.
I avoid Boulder at all costs so Eads is out (never heard of them.)
However, I'm going out to Hastings country for work next week so I know they'll pull thru. I hope so. I wish they were in the Denver area so the B&N and Borders megacorps would have some competition. Jimbo

GoMINI on the racks in Barnes and Noble
Despite the fact that looking through the magazine racks in Barnes and Noble for MINI related stuff is usually a waste of time, I tried again. Fully expecting failure I actually skipped over it when I first saw it. But, went and looked again and sure enough!! The latest GoMINI is on the shelves in at least one Denver Barnes and Noble.
It's the one with the red and white MCS on the front and it's the first monthly issue with the new woman editor.
It's the Barnes and Noble at Bowles and Wadsworth in Littleton, CO. As of about 7:30 last night there were still 4 copies on the shelves.

It looks like they have switched from bi-monthly to monthly now. Maybe more and better articles are to come. It still isn't clear what it means to us who have a year's subscription. Will I still only get 6 issues or the full year now.
Go MINI Going Monthly
If you ordered 6 issues (a year's subscription of bi-monthly issues) you'll get 6 issues; if you had a "2 year subscription" under the bi-monthly publishing schedule, you'll get 12 monthly issues under the new format. Make sense?
Go MINI just send out a letter which I received yesterdday. Gues it's gonna me a costly subscription, given the US currency exchange rate!

not so happy lately....
I've been disappointed in GoMINI lately and am considering not re-subscribing. I don't know if its the new management or just the next evolution of the mag, but I'm finding less and less of interest in its pages. The articles on local destinations are fine if you live across the pond, but are of little use to an international audience. There's lots of that now. I'm also tiring of the "same 'ol" mods on featured MINIs....some nice, some not so nice. (...it's amazing seeing several young new driver spending tons of money making a One (cosmetically only) into an MCS....why???
I miss the high end interviews of the first year w/ Murray Walker, Russ Swift, Jeremy Clarkson, Mike Cooper and the like, but again, the whole thing was all so new, I guess you could pull off that kind of stunt. The new staffers are all so young (and yes, I'm getting SO old) and their fascination with excessive bling and "standing out from the crowd" is beginning to wear on me. I'm assuming that's a generational thing.
Anyway, the scale is tipping for me, making me wonder (as we have often wondered before) if other US owners would benefit more from a US mag....clearly the UK GoMINI editors are stamping the mag for their own specific local audience...so why not us? As GoMINI becomes more and more a UK product, from John Cooper Challenge coverage (which is seldom explained adequately...why?...after all THEY get it) to very local hot spots and recommended driving routes, I'm afraid the US audience is going to be increasingly left out in the cold. Not a good thing.
I could give it time, but my second subscription is about to run out (yes, I have every issue) and I don't want more of the same stuff that's currently being dished up E-V-E-R-Y month. And what's THAT going to cost!!!
