06 base stalling wont stay running

Brand new to this forum and have read many posts, hoping someone can help, So, my son’s 06 base cooper bogged down and stopped running at a stoplight. Said it seemed like it just was losing power then stalled and won’t start. When he tried to restart it would start running for about a sec or two and then die. He is in college and it’s just a car to get to points a and b. but at this point, it isn’t doing that. I had the car towed home to start diagnosing the problem. I’ve looked all over the web and have tried a few things with no luck.

When I replaced the Purge valve, I got the car started and it ran and drove then went back to the same problem. Didn’t know if that helped or just started by luck. I could tell it was not going to start again when it would start to lose power while driving. If you get it started again when you are in park it will only rev to around 3,500 and start to bog. Not sure if this car has a rev limiter in park and neutral or if it is still in limp mode. Everything I have done I do one at a time to keep the variables constant.
Here is what I’ve tried or replaced. New ignition coil, new plugs – old plugs looked fine when removed, new plug wires, new purge valve, new map/MAF sensor (not sure on this car what it is called), new cam position sensor, new coolant temp sensor, the battery is fully charged, new gas cap and I have checked the vacuum lines for any cracks. I haven’t done a smoke test yet. Plan on testing fuel pressure at the rail this week. You hear the pump start when the key is switched. Turning on and off a few times to “prime” the injectors as some suggested, doesn’t make a difference. Could it be the fuel pump and fuel filter even though when it does get running it is running fineish?? Little frustrating at this point. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try to remove Throttle body , clean the throttle flap, put it back and do throttle adaptation with a diagnosis tool.Maybe will solve the issue.

Cleaned throttle body and same result. Checked o2 sensors and got .03 reading ohms cold. Can't read data live since the car won't stay running. Shouldn't the ohm's be between 10-20?

Central Body Electronics(ZKE)0,D1H/209 Slew of other codes from wiper to high low beam. 18H/24, 2H/2,1,BH.11. Checked all fuses all check out. Had same kind of issue with my X5 throwing so many codes turned out to be the battery. Dealer didn't regester the batter with the x5. do you have to do the same thing with a mini? This battery holds a charge. The car drove fine until this.
No indications leading up to the first stall out.

R50, R52, R53, no need to register battery.Only R56 can loose FRM memory when battery is disconnected.FRM=ZKE

My car really bogged down when my o2 sensor went, to the point it was worse then limp mode, never cut out but it was worth a try.

FWIW - I almost always suspect fuel starvation....but that's just me.
Did the pressure at the rail fall within range? When was the last time the fuel filter had been changed?

I agree with Here2Go on fuel pressure loss. Both are easy to access under the rear passenger seat.
My R50 would run and drive but idle like poop. Changed the fuel pump and filter and no more issues.

Checking rail pressure this week. Changed out the 02 sensors, no change. I don't know about the fuel filter. Probably going to change the pump and filter anyway..
At this point, it will have had a heck of a tune-up.
I'll post after the weekend with updates.

Yeah.
Remember "back in the day"....If your car was running crappy; All you had to do is pop the hood and look through that clear plastic thingy spliced into your fuel line to see if it was dirty?
*sigh*....
Those were the days

Did the OP ever find out the culprit?

My 2005 R53 had power loss/bogging while driving in gear, then gave out when I got to an intersection. Would start up but die in a second or two. Looked at ground points, vacuum connections, spark and attempted to start a handful of times which ended up in just crank and no start.

Now I have gotten the car back to a brief start scenario after pressurizing the fuel system with an on & off of the ignition a few times. Does anyone know if that's a clear indication of anything like the fuel filter, pump, regulator, injectors, etc?

Appreciate any advice!

In addition to a bad fuel pump, if the seal is not correctly seated on the fuel filter/pump top or is faulty, the car will not start.
