window whistle - bottom adjuster all the way out

Whistle, pass side, top front corner over 80mph (or at lower speed with various side winds)

R53, window gaps adjusted to OEM distances

** adjusters at bottom of door already all the way towards outside to create most pressure at top of window to weather stripping

How else can I tighten up that corner?

Now to stop the whistle I do any of these all of which make other less annoying noise:
crack open other window or sunroof
lower passenger window a bit to allow more air to move through
stick something in the corner to allow more air to move through

Glass height can be changed via two white nylon gears inside the door. Have you tried adjusting the window with those?

I have and the height is at OEM specs.

The issue is the pressure on the weather stripping (call in left/right or in/out) that is adjusted by the 10mm bolts in the bottom of the door - which are all the way to the outside of the door which should put the maximum pressure "in" at the top of the glass.

Your window weather stripping is 20 years old and rubber dries out and shrinks over time, not to mention the deformity caused by the window hitting it for those two decades. That should be your next effort.

"that" = replacing the weather stripping.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Will look for less expensive/intensive options first. If I replaced each part of the MINI effected by time, I'd be replacing the whole car. It is a $1k rescue project.

I'm more inclined to elongate the travel on the bottom adjustment point first - or something along those lines.

Am interested what others may have tried for this situation or if I'm missing some other thing to check or another approach.

Mine did this for years…whistle at high speeds

You may have to adjust the window up. The window should tuck into the rubber a bit

also, if not replacing the rubber, there are products that rejuvenate. I’ve not tried them but have seen others have success

also be sure ur regulator is tightly installed

Frameless windows are so much fun! Not quite…

My kid’s R53 whistled pretty good on the driver side wherever there was a good cross wind. Lots of buffering and it got loud!

Comparing to the non whistling side, there was a gap at the upper forward corner on the driver side glass to window seal. Ah, so that’s why it was noisy. Adjusted the window to fit that gap tight like the other side and now no more whistle. Took a few tries, but it’s good now

The two 10mm bolts for the window tracks at bottom of the door are a little more than mid way towards the outside of the door.

Curious, what are the factory specs for window alignment?

My bolts are all the way to the outside :(

specs (I thought they had a better graphic on this but I may be thinking of another site)

"The distance the window should travel along the top edge is 5mm and 3.5mm along the front edge." - figure 40

IIRC there is a pre-close and full close spec

Things to try:
Reset the window limits - close the door - lower the window & hold the switch for a good 10 seconds - then raise & hold.
Lower the window - open the door - put your knee between the door & the B pillar - push the top of the door in ie twist the door.
Dampen a cloth with a little glycerine, silicone or Vaseline & wipe all the seals (this also reduces the chances of them freezing shut).
