not the ****, but the the "skirt" part?

Mine won't stay in place. The glue doesn't hold it around the bottom. It's been that way since I got it, but I'm getting really annoyed finally.

I thought I had read a thread here where someone else mentioned that it wouldn't stay in place but I can't find it now. Anyone else remember that?

Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone tried to see if the dealer will fix it? I'm sure I can figure out a way to fix it on my own, but I've got to schedule Molly for her first service anyhow, so I thought I might see if it's worth asking them to look at it. I was just hoping to find out if anyone else has dealt with this issue before talking to the dealer.

TIA!

The shift boot coming unglued on the CVT's has happened to more than a few owners in the past. I forget the solution (i.e. if MINI has a real fix or whether they are just glueing in new ones), but it is a warranty item.

shift "boot". Ahhh, that's the term! Much better than "skirt"!

My recollection was pretty fuzzy - but it's good to know that I wasn't hallucinating about other folks experiencing the problem. Since it didn't bother me too much in the beginning I didn't pay much attention at the time.

I guess I'll just ask the dealer. But now I'm curious whether it was a legitimate "fix" or just a quick-fix. Unless someone beats me to it, I'll follow up with what I find.

follow up anyway. You know MINI and their rolling changes. There may be new developments on this. Keep us posted.

Hey Mini2go, mine did the same thing, I hate how it detracts from the appearance of the interior. Supposedly there's a fix kit that holds it in place using pegs instead of glue. Are you going to be taking Molly into P&W for service? I was pondering sending Bill Schmitt an email asking about it, as well as asking about the computer update CD that supposedly takes care of the low-speed CVT shudder and the accelerator lag. I don't need to take mine in soon, but if you find out anything, post it or private message me, I'll do the same if I find out anything.

Glad you mentioned about the CD update, I'm not sure how, but I nearly forgot about that!

I am drafting my email to P&W now. I'm not sure how busy their service department is, so I'm scheduling now for an appointment in the first week of January. The other reason I'm starting early is because I fully expect a few email volleys between now and then. I'll be sure to let you know what all I find out.

There is also a rattle problem with the shift boot, so watch for that (one more to add to the list)

The dealer will fix the boot under warranty, although I wasn't aware of the "peg" solution, last time I headr, the fix was still to reglue it. Apparently, the glue was bad on a series of the cars - check your A-frame pillar and see if ti pulls up at all from the windshield. It shouldn't come off, but that's a warranty item as well.

Thanks for that tip on the A-pillar, Randy!

Just checked mine. It doesn't really move - much. I can squeeze it a bit and it will flex and twist a little, but nothing seemed to really move. Same on both sides.

Is the rattle problem on manuals, CVT's or both?

I am only familiar with the rattle on the manual, but it has to do with the plastic under the shifter, so it may affect CVTs also.
