Used Gen 1 JCW Spoiler attachment

Hi! New here, I have an R53 and just acquired a JCW spoiler. Suggestions for attachment? Heavy duty 3M tape, Windshield sealant? I did a quick search but found nothing.
Thanks in advance!

Do an Amazon search for 3M automotive adhesive trim tape. Many widths and parts descriptions will pop up so you have a lot of options. Or go to any parts store; they have it.

Thanks! I thought 3M Heavy duty would work, the stuff that holds the original wing on is a tape and super strong. Just wanted to make Sure it wasn't going to fly off!! Probably not a lot of downforce going on.

Hi Johnmini, Here is the Mini's official installation doc for the JCW spoiler. I've done the same mod to my 2004 MSC a few years back and it works great. I used the adhesive listed on the doc. I wouldn't use any tape products because over time the the pressure and heat will weaken it.

The stock spoiler is bolted to the hatch along with the tape. The JCW spoiler will probably fly off with tape only.

This stuff is almost permanent -

And thick enough to protect the body metal/paint from any damage from the wing moving around.

Oh no! Tape again! I see the BMW guys use it but they have trunk mounted spoilers. I definitely don’t want it flying off! Seems like everyone has had success with both! Is it just a permanent vs removable thing?

No, no, like the factory...both adhesive tape AND mechanical fasteners.

Totally in agreement, Do not use tape!!!! The OEM JCW wing spoiler is attached only with adhesive, there is no mechanical screws. That is why they used a strong epoxy to attached it, so it doesn't go anywhere. And yes it is a permanent bond but the wing can be carefully removed with piano wire.

Awesome! Thank you everyone for the replies! I'm ordering the epoxy today, looks like the best route to go. I'll post a photo of it when it's done. Thanks again!!

So the Betalink K2 that is suggested by Mini is no longer available, any suggestions for an alternate adhesive? I see a Betalink 1K available.

+1 my vote is for OEM betalink, you don't want to loose that rare JCW spoiler

Amazon Amazon

Used by body shops all the time, many different types. Go to autobody tool mart and ask questions, or go to a local body shop and ask questions, they can surely help and it would be local to you. OEM is likely rebranded 3m.

Similar to @slofut 's (Epoxy) suggestion above -
In my former (SFX) industry ; Plexus MA (methalacrylate) was our go to industrial solution where a superior mechanical attachment was necessary but not possible.
Plexus It is not epoxy but mixes like epoxy by ratio via the gun operated dispenser. It's impressively strong!
Sets up fast, toxic smelling as heck / the fumes are overwhelming. Use in well ventilated environment.
Although I don't recall formula # we used;
Amazon Amazon
sells a few consumer grade versions for a variety of applications and cure times.

*Be sure to purchase a kit with the dispenser gun!
