So after some thinking while driving, my but decided that it was time to upgrade the black and silver cloth seats in my 2003 BRG Cooper S with period correct sport or leather seats that would have been available in 2003.
I found a complete seat of front and back seats and the seller stated in the ad that they would fit 2002-2006. This is only partially correct as they will indeed bolt up. but will not plug in.
Seems there is a difference in the connectors form my 2003 and the seats that I have ready to install (year of seats unknown).
Current connectors on the floor of the car
This is what is on the seats
Actually it is even worse as the left seat (drivers) does not have the white connector at all.
Can make these work?
Did I buy the wrong seats? The seller of course assured me they "would fit right in a 2003"
I know the yellow wire is for the air brags. What are the other ones for? The black connector on the seat seems to be for larger wires then the black connector on the floor.
Any idea on how to proceed?
Jeff

The blue and black plug from the car is going to the seat belt buckle/tensioner and you will need to remove it from your old seat and reinstall it to the new seat.
The middle black plug from second picture is for heated seat, white plug is passenger seat occupancy sensor(only for 05 up)
Do you know what year of car they came out of? I put some 2006 seats in my 2003 recently. I had to swap the seat belt tensioner (female part of the seat belt) from my old seats to my new ones. Then they worked just fine. I can't remember which plugs/wires do what. but one of them might be for seat heaters. The new passenger seat will have a plug for the seat occupancy sensor which your car won't have a plug for, which is fine, it won't cause any problems.

I can do that. I am out of workspace as the MC40 is taking up ALL of my garage and the seats are stuffed in the back of my Land Rover. I can pull the seat belts AND WIRES off my current seat and move them over.

I do not know what year they are from looks like 2002-2006 but not sure. I know the plugs are different from my 2003 or 2004 so a post facelift R53 maybe?
The seat belt part that bolts to the seat is not attached to the seats so I can swap that part over. Looks like my 2003 seat belt has 2 wires running from it. IF that is the case, I can swap them with the seat belt and plug in the yellow plug all ready there and ignore the seat heater connector.
OK; Note to self- Self, always look at the parts on the car before you look at the parts on the shelf.
If I taken the fabric seats out and sat them next to the leather seats, it would have been obvious that I had to relocate the seat belt fastener to the new leather seats.
With your help, I not only got the seats swapped over, but managed to publicly embarrass myself all in one post.
Again thanks for the help, and in particular the quick response.

Don't be too hard on yourself, I did pretty much the exact same thing when I swapped my seats. Definitely worth it though, the new seats are so much nicer.
