R50/53 Trickle Charging
Trickle Charging
Is it sufficient to connect a trickle charger to the remote terminals in the engine bay, as opposed to directly to the battery in the boot, for winter storage. Does it make any difference? Obviously for an S with battery in boot lol.
No, will be fine. the only thing to keep in mind is the cable resistance back to the battery, your source current should be high enough to provide enough to keep it fresh.
FWIW, I rebuilt a new to me shed, had no power and decided to use an old car battery with a VW solar charger to supply power to LED lights I am putting up. Put the charger in the garage window hooked up to the battery and it supported 12.3~12.5V fine w/o a load. I then hooked up 2 of the LED's full time to see how long it would drain, over several days it did start to dip down into the 12.1 range. In my app, will have the lights on for up to 30 minutes thru a wall timer.
