Supercharger life ?

I just read that the supercharger life expectancy is only 100k miles. Other than the bearings what else dies in these? I have 158k miles and still gets 16-18 psi of boost. At 133k I changed the oil on both ends although one end was empty. Do the rotors ware?

I feel as though your on borrowed time. If the back end was empty, that indicates the rear seal has failed. Its actively siphoning oil from the back into the case.

The rotors don't wear to my knowledge, but I could see them getting out of spec if there is too much play in the snout. There is however a few bearings that can wear out. I don't know exactly how many seals there are. Also the nylon coupler in the front is replaceable.

Ok thanks! Can you recommend a rebuilder. Mine has the newer black rotors.

I've got 175k on my original SC, I had the oil changed at 140k when the single mass flywheel and clutch went in, and still have great boost. The biggest key to these is routine maintenance, once the seals start to leak, its just a matter of time IMHO. As an aside, I do have a new JCW SC put away for when the original DOES go out (bought it on closeout 2 years ago).

Good info here.

http://thehighspeedlab.com/mini-coop...rchargers.html

Many are in great shape with lots of miles... and just need good service... Replace water pump while you are at it from the info I've gleaned

Pre-facelift - the coating on the rotors

Post - no difference

This guy is well trusted in the ford lightning community. With better (and consistent) results then other builders. Rebuilt and ported many m112 blowers. He offered a front end only rebuild on mine for a sweet deal. I deleted the PTO driven pump, and went electric. Also if you get it ported, they rebuild it for free(bearings, oil, seals)

Does anyone have personal experience with Jokerz, High Speed Lab or another S/C rebuilder?

My car has nearly 158k miles and there is a rattling noise in the engine compartment. I haven't put a stethoscope in the engine compartment yet but the sound seems to be beneath the intercooler vs at the front of the engine (timing chain area). I've owned this car since new and done all post warranty service work on it myself (except for the power steering pump done under recall at the dealer) so I know the supercharger has never been serviced.

FCPEuro lists a Mini supercharger for $1371 which comes with a lifetime warranty. The High Speed Lab lists supercharger rebuild with PTO remanufacture for $1045 and Jokerz doesn't specifically mention the Eaton M45 in the R53.

My car is a daily driver and I would prefer to do this replacement in one day and dealing with a core vs pull my S/C, send it somewhere and wait for the rebuild. I know FCPEuro charges a core but what about the other two?

I had the same rattling sounds. Probably the backside of the SC. Mine was in pretty bad shape. It was cheaper for me to delete the PTO. Rebuilding the SC was more costly, when also factoring the WP. You can check out my build thread if your interested.

I've had experience with Jokers working on my Lightning in the past. It's why I called him about my MINI. He said "If it's an Eaton, I can rebuild it". He's a really cool guy. I've read countless testimonials over on the lightingrodder.com forums, been there over a decade. Back when Steig and Joker were trying to outdo each other. Before Steig had to sell off the company. I won't go into the details of why.

You'll have to call about pricing. I haven't been to the website much. I've only dealt with the owner on the phone, or in the forums. He's a site vendor. Tell him a lightning rodder member sent you over from the MINI forum. It'll blow his mind lol
