R50/53 3000 miles
I still haven't changed the oil of my '04 MCS in 6,800 miles. I am waiting for the 10K service. My other MINI, a '02 Cooper CVT has gotten only 1 oil change in 22,200 miles since taking delivery in Sept 2002. It is due for its second 25K mile service stop in about a month or so.
You have to trust the technology. Synthetic oil affords greater intervals between oil changes. If you are going to change oil every 3K miles, then don't waste your money and switch to Dino Oil.
So far I haven't had any problems and neither car has used a drop of oil.

I'm going to compromise and change my oil at about 4,000 and then at the MINI provided 10,000. I am not going to feel good waiting to 10,000 miles, especially on the first change. There are lots of previous threads on this subject. Everyone has an opinion and I don't think the discussion changes anyones mind. Now to find a cheap 36mm socket.

I agree entirely with Cooper4us on this oil change thing. If you want a car where you can play grease monkey every 3000 miles, go buy a Mini (i.e., a classic). Then, you can also learn how to adjust carbs. That can provide years of mechanical entertainment.
Damn short driving distances...my MC is telling me it needs its first oil change at 4750 miles now...of course, I do live across the street from my workplace, but I still drive to work...LOL (oftentimes, I must run errands after work, hence, I drive)
