throwout bearing ?

Not to start another thread but now im trying to determine if my throw out bearing is bad.

while driving in gear I get a chatter it comes and goes and doesnt matter what gear im in.
I do notice that when I come off the gas and get back on it sometimes its gone but comes back.
the other thing is when in gear and I push the clutch in that chatter usually goes away.

Ive ruled out many other things as far as anything loose.

02 non S

what do you all thunk im up against here,
my preference is to not do a swap and keep it as much stock as possible, if its a tranny issue
ill figure out how to rebuild it,

biggest question is , how do I determine if its the transmission or the throw out bearing.
and once I tear it apart what would I be looking for to determine if it is in fact the tranny

thanks

Since your noise goes away when you push the clutch pedal, it's not a throwout bearing concern. A problem with the throwout bearing is revealed when you push the clutch pedal.

I think your problem is in the pressure plate or dual mass flywheel.

If it were the flywheel, what would I be looking for while inspecting it, I don't think I have a dual mass flywheel, but until I open it up I won't know for sure

I think I have the same problem as you! I usually hear that rattle upon start up of the car.. and when i push the clutch slightly, it goes away. So I'm suspecting that it's the dual mass fly wheel.

I'm just going to drive it as long as possible and ignore the sound.. HAHA

When it's time for me to change the clutch, I will convert it to a single mass flywheel instead. And new throwout bearing and stuff too.

Usually when you hear that rattling, then place slight pressure on the clutch pedal and the sound disappears it's the throw-out bearing....just my 2cents

It's not the flywheel, don't make extra work for yourself. Unless you were planning to change your clutch, I would just deal with the rattle unless it's that loud and unbearable.Make sure that when you do change the clutch, put a new throw-out bearing in

For me it's not that it's unbearable,, it's annoying.
But mainly I don't want anything failing to where I'm stranded and since it's a spare , I'll rip it apart very soon here. If it's the tranny I found the Midlands rebuild manual and go from there.

I posted this earlier , still trying to determine if it's the throw out or tranny , and I'm debating on when I wanna tear in to it .

The video shows the chatter going away when I push the clutch pedal in. I just took it for a ride and that chatter is there in all gears whether the clutch pedal is in or out and while coasting in neutral
There is a slight whistle when reversing .

Anyone ever have this and not have it be the tranny..
If it is the tranny I don't want to my shop tied up while rebuilding it with winter approaching, I will just store it till spring
On another note it's a speed but how do I tell for sure that it's a Midlands.
