Inner door handle inoperable

My inner door handle on the driver side will not operate the latch so that i have to roll down my window and push the button on the handle outside my car. My lock system will lock the driver door and all others, but will not unlock the driver door while still unlocking the hatch, passenger, and gas cover. I'm not sure if the issue is related, the handle went out unexpectedly. I do experience leakage that i'm working on through the headliner because of backed up water drain passages from the sun roof, but i am unsure if that might have something to do with the problem.

I was curious if i can just tighten the cable, or if i have to replace the mechanism completely.

Thank you for your time.

The cable clips into the latch assembly. It has probably come undone from someone pulling on it hard while locked instead of pulling twice. It's not a fun job, but takes about an hour to complete. On mine, I drilled a hole to run a zip tie through to hold the cable in place. The lock rod also likely came unclipped and will need to be put back into place. There is a good post somewhere on this site that I followed to take it apart, but basically everything is done with Bowden cables and you have to figure out the best way to do it. One hint though, take the inner handle off and use the slack in the cable to your advantage.

Thanks! I'm gonna scrap the part from pick n pull or get one online, the cable is the issue, and after looking at the cable on a busted mini at the scrap yard and reading that thread I assume it will be well worth the pennies to just get the cable. Thanks!
