TPMS problems

Hi everyone,
I am a new member of the forum, i am proud to be here. I hope you can help me

i am having problems with the TPMS of my 2002 mcs r53.
i have checked tyre pressure and reseted the system, then i drive a few kilometers and the light turns on.

It occurs faster in a hot day (about whitin 2 kilometers), in a cold day i can drive 40 kilometeres without the problem.
I dont know if there is any temperature sensor in the system that may be faulty.

I know this version of TPMS uses the abs sensors to work, there is not any abs fault in the car so my dubt is if any abs sensor may be faulty.

Do you have any expiriences with this problem?

Lots of threads on here.
Three possibilities:
1 Corroded sensor. Take it out (if you can), only one screw, clean it & re-install it with no grease.
2 Wiring. Check the plug & socket for corroded/broken pins.
3 Hub. Wheel bearing beginning to fail. Can you hear any rumbling that changes on left or right turns?

Does the traction control sometimes kick in as well?

Thanks,

What sensor you say? the number 10 in this diagram?

where is it located? i would like to check it.

I think bearings are not the problem because i can not heard any noise.

About traction control, it is always deactivated when TPMS fault is on. without TPMS fault, traction control works normal.

No, it's #2 in this one.
It's immediately behind the rotor - you'll see the wire connecting it. They are often hard to remove,

i will check.

I have not the ABS fault light. is it possible this sensor is faulty without the ABS fault light?

Yes, I think so.
But try cleaning the sensors first.
Start with the right front as that, for some reason, seems to be the commonest failure point.

if an abs sensor is bad you get an abs fault.

I’m new to Mini’s myself and may be way off here, just trying to learn. So here goes...

Tire Pressure Monitoring System, right?

The little bit I know about it is based off other makes and models, but don’t they all have battery powered pressure switches inside each tire/wheel?

The tire air valve in the wheel is a small, permanently sealed module with a battery that lasts approximately 10 years (So I’m told by Discount Tire). When the battery runs down, you start getting codes.

Have you resolved this?

Thanks, Dan

Minis have used two TPMS systems.

Up to about 2006 there are no sensors inside the tires - there are sensors behind the brake disc. Below them is a 'tone ring'. a toothed ring around the hub.
If a tire loses pressure, it gets smaller. The sensor detects a difference in road speed & triggers the TPMS light. The same sensors are used for ABS & ASC/DSC but react differently to the signal.

Later cars have the inside tire sensors - I think they only monitor pressure. ABS etc use something else.
