R50/53 JCW Tips on Stock 2005 Exhaust
JCW Tips on Stock 2005 Exhaust
Anyone fited JWC Tips on a stock 2005 exhaust. I don't like the stock tips, the JCW tips are much much better but I can't justify spending money on the JCW exhaust. I really like the sound of my 05.
The reason I am asking is that I purchased the tips from Classic Mini and they won't fit on my 05 :(
TIA

Not like the stock tips? How could you not like them?!
Does everybody know this story? If so, I apologize. I read it in New MINI by Graham Robson.
Apparently, Frank Stephenson and his crew were frantically trying to get the clay mockup finished before the head honchos from BMW arrived to approve the final design. Walking around the back of the car, he realized there was no tailpipe!
He and his crew tore the shop apart looking for anything that could be used as a tailpipe. Finally, they found a Budweiser beer can left over from someone's lunch the day before. They scraped off the paint, sliced the top off it, and jabbed it into the clay.

Look familiar?
The guys at BMW liked it, and the car ended up with a beer can (or two) for a tailpipe tip!
Stephenson was so embarrassed about it, that it wasn't until much later that he admitted to the bigwigs where the idea came from. It was at some big board meeting, and they all had a laugh about it!
I guess if you want a German to like something, make it look like beer! Ja?

If it's not true, then somebody at MINI took an urban legend and really ran with it.
When we bought our MINI, the showroom of MINI of Sterling had a small display case with an upside-down, unpainted, polished beer can in it. A plaque attached to the case related the story of the clay model incident, and invited the reader to take another look at the back of the car for comparison. The display appeared to be an official MINI USA created advertising prop...
