Passed court appearance date!!!

Oh no...!!!!!!!!!!!

I got a ticket couple months ago for "exhibition of speed" and i just found the citation ticket this morning. It was over 2 weeks ago!!!!!!!

Now it says on the back that I may go to jail or be fined $1000!!!!

Exhibition of speed is supposed to be freeway speed contests. All this started when this cop on the side of the road standing outside his car put his flash light on me and signaled me to pull over when I took a right turn and my crappy tires chirped like usual. He asked me why was I burning out on that turn!!

As if that wasn't enough of a ticket filled with poo, now i don't know what to do... all they want is my money. And now they probably want LOTS of my money, as if it's not bad enough. They don't care about my safety, just their money.. money money money, that's all it ever is.

What do i do?????

Stop whining and call the court. That may or may not do you any good, but it's certainly going to do you more good than whining about the injustice of it all to a bunch of people who can't possibly do anything about it.

whine away, i hate speeding tickets, its just a lottery, a bad one, and if they really wanted to stop speeding, which they never will because the tickets are a cash cow, they could do like England and install cameras and sensors on overpasses and every single car that was speeding would recieve a ticket, but that would never fly because everyone would be so mad getting a ticket every day or 5 a day, that they would have to change it. whew ok im done ranting hahaaaaa

ps- i do think that excessive speeders should get tickets as well as reckless drivers, just not people going a reasonable speed on the freeway.

In addition to Spunky's admonition I'll also say...call the court. This'll only get worse with time so might as well take your lumps up front and fall on the mercy of the court. People do make mistakes and, while never quite an adequate excuse, you might get a chance to resolve this with minimum damage. Good luck!!

I think you should call the court immediately!

Also, why in the heck did you not contest the ticket in writing? In CA you can do that and still reserve your right to go to court and driving school.

While they probably won't be too happy that you wasted their valuable court time, the fact that there is a jail overcrowding problem in CA will mean that you shouldn't have too big of a problem reaching a monetary agreement instead of doing jail time.

Or they could issue a warrant because you failed to appear and not follow up on it until your next traffic stop. Years from now, you'll get pulled for failing to signal or something like that and will be arrested for having an outstanding warrant. Once you get sprung on bail, they'll set an arraignment for an eventual court date at which they'll ultimately just suggest a fine.

Be sure a keep a few grand free to cover all of this.

sorry to say, but i think he kinda hit it

however, i would still call the court immrediately and tell them your story, and act like a normal person and tell the truth, dont be some wacko yelling at the person n the other lie or anything like that worth a try

They most likely would have issued a bench warrant for you. The only way to clear this up is to call the Court Clerk, ASAP. If not, and you get pulled over again, you will be arrested and go to jail, since you are out on a warrant. It will most likely be considered a mistake. But your fine will also most likely be expensive to clear up the ticket, late fees, and bench warrant.

also ask for traffic school and see if you can do it on line. depends on the county you are in whether they will let you or not.

Call the court and see if they will give you a new court date. Plead "not guilty" and explain to the judge you had bad tires. Prove that you now have new, safe tires (bring the receipt), and would like the ticket dismissed. Maybe they will plea-bargain with you to a defective equipment charge. Much cheaper than excessive speed, and most likely not a moving violation in your state.

just talked to my friend who actually had the same thing happen many years back, call the clerk, he had to make a new court date and pay the fine and at the court appearance the warrant was removed. So if the law is the same still then that should be it. Just dont get pulled over in the mean time. But all in all im sure life will go on after all this! Good luck!!

lots of "half full" types jumping in on this thread here.

Exhibition of speed

This sounds like you were doing a little more than "chirping" the tires. Are you sure there was no one else around, like another vehicle, "chirping" their tires too?

I’d either leave the country immediately or get some soap on a rope.

Antranik! Call the court immediately and explain that you goofed! Throw yourself on the mercy of the court/judge and take your medicine! Sorry, but it sounds like you are in for a VERY expensive lesson on this one.

Ok, if you received a ticket like that from a cop why would you forget about it and just start looking for the ticket yesterday?

I agree with this one. Don't agree with some of the more harsh statements, but you should have paid attention to the original ticket and dealt with it right away.

To those that have criticized and assumed that this person was speeding, my tires chirp on one particular corner near my home every day. Not because I am speeding, but because the road is uneven and the tire spins from loss of contact. (road falls away, unloaded tire, hmm... go figure!) It is a short chirp, but I assume if the same **** retentive cop was close to this corner, he would issue me a ticket a well.

Try to establish a new court date, and then fight it! Build your case from facts. What is the condition of the road where it occurred? What was your speed? Did the orificer establish a speed, or just estimate? What vehicle code were your written under and does it apply? Was it the unloaded tire that made the noise? You get the picture.

Writing traffic tickets is a numbers game run by the state. They write lots of tickets and most people just pay them, without even doing a little research into how to fight them. The state assumes that the overwhelming majority of people will just roll over and pay. Imagine the court system that would need to be established if every driver educated themselves and contested every ticket!
