Gen1 Index

Some of the Moderators are discussing about creating an index in each generation forum with a list of typical questions along with some answers and/or some threads that address the issue.

Possible items:

0001 - What models are considered Generation 1?
0002 - What type oil should be used and when should the oil be changed?
0003 - What type gas should be used and what happens if I do not?
0004 - I have a yellow light that says EML, what does that mean?
0005 - What are "codes" and how do I see them?
0006 - What are typical maintenance items for my car?
0007 - What tires should I use?
0008 - Is there a list of acronyms for my MINI?
0009 - What is good way to get more power from my car?
0010 - What is a good way to get better handling with my car?
0011 - How do I know what options my car has?
0012 - How do I know what parts my car has?
0013 - My AC is not working, what do I do?
0014 - The push button on my key will not unlock my car, what do I do?
0015 - How do I unhook and/or charge my battery?
0016 - Should I use only original MINI/BMW parts?

Thoughts, other items????

Others?

How do I properly lift the car and put it on jackstands?
What performance items will actually help the car go faster, handle better?
Do I need a tune?
What tune should I get?
How can I find the options that came on the car - from the factory?
Where should I look for rust?
Before buying, should I have a PPI (pre purchase inspection) done?
Before buying, what / where are the areas that I should be looking at?

Will add them to my list. Some I have, the VIN, power and handling.

I am trying to figure out how best to number/mark them so that a search here on NAM will pull them up.

Thinking about two threads, one sticky that is locked and one that is open so that suggestions can be discussed and then added to the locked thread. Would like to stay away from something with numerous posts.

Does anybody have a good source for torque settings? For paint codes I am referencing https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...eat-sheet.html

How about best reference/comprehensive reference guides? then link to 'mod mini' on youtube and pelican parts as free references. Then perhaps the bentley manual as a paid reference.

Took me a few weeks after acquiring the mini to stumble upon these gems.

I have Modmini and the vendors noted in my draft. Good idea on the Bentley, it will be my 25th item.

I like the idea of an index!

Have the mods given any consideration to re-ordering the forums to combat the incorrect posting of "problems" in other sections?

What I was thinking is moving the "issues" forum to the top of the subforums list so that people who come just to post issues will naturally get to "issues" first.

Just a thought I had.

Not a bad idea, will punt this up to top. With the age of the Gen1 cars, most of the questions are Stock Problems/Issues.
