Intercoolers like the GP will help you fight the heat generated by the s/c as you reduce the pulley size, but won't gain you much on it's own. Cheap intercoolers might do the opposite of reducing intake temps. The GP one was pretty much tested and proven, even tho it's not so cheap anymore. I bought one to help fight the heat at the track, but also plan on getting a meth kit.

A lot of people will suggest the meth kit before going for a bigger intercooler as you'll gain more from the cooling and octane boosting properties of water/meth injection. But doing both isn't a bad idea either, it's really more a question of budget at this point.

The JCW kit was a dealer fit/factory option. You could get a 200hp kit in 2003-2004 or 210hp from '04 and up. The 200hp kit added a machined head, 11% S/C pulley, colder heat range spark plugs, an exhaust, CAI, and ECU map to the MCS. The 210 kit added the above plus 380cc injectors, an 11.3% S/C pulley, and another tune.

This is a nice guide to have bookmarked.

I wouldn't get a GP intercooler for $1.5k. I personally don't see this doing anything out of this world compare to the Stock unit or like i like the say the "$$$$ to better ratio" is not there. I personally have an affordable unit which you can find in Post #28 for comparison reasons and the difference i experienced in post #39 (which was without the diverter). It has been track tested by me and it held it own super super well. I have a Custom made diverter which I'm sure helps since it forces all the air to pass thru the IC. The Temp the day was around 80f and the IAT was around 108-117f during the sessions.

I personally shop for the "$$$ to better Ratio".

I also have a WMI kit going in, which i will be using for cooling more then performance and the by product of cooler AIT is a little more performance.

The GPIC was a decent item to have for a street car when they were new and the prices were 1/3 of what they are today, but at the current price, they are only a real performance benefit for track cars. You have to remember, the GPIC's cooling benefits were actually fairly minimal, it's claim to fame and true benefit is it's super quick recovery time from heat soak, that's why it's more suited for the track than the street.
As stated above, for a street car, W/M is not only the best bang-4-buck, but also the over all best performer for cooling and performance.

That is the first source I've ever seen which says there's a difference in pulley size between the 200bhp and 210bhp JCW Kits. The latter kit just upgraded the former by including larger fuel injectors (plus associated tune) and a CAI.

Yeah, I don't know if that's true or not but just adding 380cc injectors and another tune doesn't seem like it'd net you another 10hp. Weren't the intakes part of both kits?

No, the intake was only part of the 210 kit. A JCW upgrade kit was available for the 200HP cars and included the intake, injectors, and tune to retrofit those to 210HP.

JCW was developing a 225HP kit, but MINI decided to go with the Peugeot engine and turbo so it was dropped. A few of the 225 kits were sold directly through John Cooper Motorsport in Europe.

+1 Those kits are rare and the really rare one was the -7/2004 Cooper ( NON S ) Tuning kits.
