Everyone's "best" is different. You'll want to be a little more specific about the note you're after.

My JCW exhaust gives a restrained, bassy roar without any blat or tinniness. Drone is minimal but present.

the magnaflow is one of the loudest systems available, not only is it like 40lb less than the stock, it definently flows better due to everything being straight through. its not piercing loud, and doesn't drone, but you do hear it on the highway. the burble is also much more noticable

I've had the Invidia N1 cat-back for 3 or 4 years now and love it. Build quality was very good, installation was quick & easy. The sound is louder & lower than stock, but not obnoxious, and zero drone. Burble & pop are enhanced quite nicely, and the price was very reasonable.

Do not buy an exhaust for a performance increase, unless you're pairing it with a high-flow header or head.

RMW's shorty header. That's another grand though. Get all your bolt-ons out of the way before you start on manifold and head work.

I've got the Alta cat back and love the sound. Came with the car though, if it was being purchased by me I'd prolly end up going with a cheaper system.

M7/Powertone is the best interms of meaning sound/weight advantage and lastly performance. Exhaust alone won't give you real "gain" unless you have bigger cam+ header then you can think about exhaust. If not stock is fine

Before I bought my Mini I listened to a few and found that I liked the sound of the Alta the best, I got lucky that the one I went to look at to buy had it equipped already. Sound is very subjective. PhoR53 likes the M7, they make great products, there exhaust certainly sounds good. It's like chips. They make all those different flavors for a reason. In the end it still started as a potato. Unless you are making huge gains in power you won't really notice a difference in performance from one system to the other, choose the one you want based on sound. They all sound pretty decent. Just don't hack off the muffler and weld something cheap on....
