Window Shudder

Yes, I've searched...

2004 MCS

Lately, when it's hot outside and I roll the windows up, they will shudder, judder, shake, jerk, whateveryouwanttocallit. They still raise, but not without some negative feedback - and really only during the middle of the raising cycle, not the beginning or end. Both doors/windows, only when hot.

It doesn't seem like the regulators are bad, the guides may just need lubrication... somewhere. But I'm loath to start squirting lube in the channels hoping for a miracle. If any of you have had this problem, where did you apply the lubrication?

You are correct in not squirting lube down the window channels, what you need to do is lubricate the guild rails, this will require you to pull off the door panels.

Here is an example, the part marked in green...

...and of course if that doesn't sort it out, then it is most likely the motors are starting to go bad ...

Motor on!

Thanks for this! I just had the passenger door opened up (to do the lock actuator) and lubed the guides. Did the same with the driver's side. Very easy to pull the door panels and smear some grease where it needs to go.

This works perfectly to smooth out the window-up function.

Sweet, just started having these symptoms a few days ago. Thought I needed to replace some stuff.

Just use real grease, not some kind of spray lubricant. I had some synthetic grease lying around, so that's what I used.

Do try to lube the rubber edges/window seals....some shops have what looks like a jumbo Chapstick that they run around the windows channels .....it also helps to prevent sticking in the winter when water freeze...that way the windows don't get stick UP ...really important with Windows that dip.....
