Mini Cooper S (r53) 2005
Hello
I live in Sweden and really like my Mini Cooper S from 2005.
Lately i have discovered two really annoying noises from my Mini.
Can someone help me to detect where they come from.
The noise from the enginge (first movie) is probably the idler pulley after finding similar sounds on YouTube. Agree?
The second noise is really, really annoying, it sounds like a "electrical" whining sound that follows my acceleration. It sounds even in low speeds.
Please help me

Remove belt:
Spin pulleys.
You'll feel which one is making the high pitched noise.
The whine sounds like your supercharger. Not a bad thing. You should embrace it!
Glad you're enjoying the car
Edit: I just watched your first video again and you need to replace that passenger side upper motor mount. You can see the old hydraulic fluid sitting on the frame.

Hi!
Big thanks for the fast reply.
I´ve already replaced the hydraulic motor mount once so i believe that the fluid on the frame is from the old mount.
Back to my problems, noise 1 is probably one of the pulleys then. the other "noise" is really not normal. I´ve had my car for 6 years and it has never sounded like this before, The car is all original and the engine used to sound like this
(video found on youtube) The sound it makes now is really annoying, i love the sound from the supercharger but this one is more like a constant whine that sounds really loud even when driving really slow. Its sounds like this guy has the same problem, maybe his video
is better. He also seems to have this annoying whine.
Big thanks for the fast reply.

If you rev the engine with the car in neutral, do you hear "noise #2," or is it only when driving?
If noise #2 only happens when driving, could you be low on gear oil?

I wouldn't rule out the supercharger starting to go... How many miles do you have?
I've never heard one whine quite like that. I think your first plan of attack should be checking all the pulleys. Including the supercharger. It should feel fairly smooth in rotation. And have next to NO play when you pull it laterally.
The two noises could be caused by the same problem as well if the sound is somehow resonating in to the cabin.
Take care of whichever pulley is making the noise #1 first and then go from there.
You gotta start somewhere!
