R50/53 My possible first mini?
My possible first mini?
A 2005 mini MCS popped up in my area with upgrades including :
-Tints
-New rims and tires
-Adjustable rear sway bar
-High performance harmonic balancer
-A Renntech tune
-And the top upgrade is the mini madness stage 4 kit. (Which I've found to cost almost $8k alone?)
Now the downsides I guess are the mileage, 110k and the price, $10k. But for my area (St.Louis) most mini's are at least $8k-10k even with high mileage.
My worry is that this car was driven hard and is now not in the greatest shape. But if it's still in good shape is this a solid deal? By the pictures the car looks great. I would definitely have it looked at by a mechanic, and if there is any kind of warranty offered I would take it.
Thanks in advance!

Wow...$10,000 seems like a lot of loot for a car with that many miles.
I'd say shop around...also be aware to avoid these:
2007 – 2010 R56 S model (N14 engine)
2009 – 2010 R57 S model convertible (N14 engine)
2008 – 2010 R55S Clubman S (N14 engine)
Also - the JCW used the N14 thru 2012
If you're not going to do your own maintenance or have an independent MINI mechanic available to you be prepared to pay some big ca$h.

Holly crap!! $10,000 for a 10 year old MINI!!
Bolt-on parts are worth PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR.....think they are asking a dream price...
IMO those add-ons show the car was beat on...could be used up...
But if you like it...might be worth looking at...but for, IMO much less....maybe $6000 if in good shape and it is exactly the car you want.....maybe less.
Just my opinion... And I am kinda cheap...if I was a millionaire... Might pay $10,000 expecting to put another $6000 into it....maybe a motor...
You know the saying...the higher one goes, the further they have too fall....and that car is pushing lots of HP...generally limits its life... And you know NOTHING AHOUT THE QUALITY OF the WORK.

Kinda putting a different spin on what Zippy said:
It would have to have a new clutch, crank pulley, control arm bushings minimum in addition to the tires at that price and milage, and you're still taking a chance on some other major repairs. Thats if the car has been well maintained.

If you're looking for a high power Mini that car looks pretty interesting.
I would need a lot more information about it first though. Find out how much stuff is new. Like roguemini said if some of the wear items have been fixed it makes the car more desirable. Part of that kit includes the head so it's possible it's had other engine work done to it. Hopefully they have receips and a dyno sheet to show what's been done to it.
Always a risk buying a high hp car though. You never know how much abuse it's had. Some people like to have fast cars and don't really use it. Others beat the crap out of them.
Since it sounds like you don't work on cars yourself so you might be better off finding a car with lower miles and less mods. This one might get expensive fast if you have to pay someone to fix it.
Also, look outside of your area. $8-10 k for a high miles Mini is too much. I would drive at least a few hours away for a car. In Milwaukee I paid $5700 for my 02 s with 90k miles on it and I know there are better deals out there than mine.

There are lots of good deals on stock MINI's out there and with lower mileage. I'm sure you could find something unmolested and start fresh unless you want to buy one that is built up already.
