Favorite Motoring Music
I'll probably be picking up my MC this weekend from the dealer and will be making some CDs for the journey.
What do you love to listen to while motoring? I was thinking of making a NAM compilation disk.
I, personally, like a bit of everything (except country)... so I'm open to whatever you have...

No, no, no....you guys got it all wrong!!!!
Well, not really.
What's still blows me away is how much fun MINIs are no matter what mood one is in......the spirited, nitty-gritty, *****-to-the-wall type or the loosey-goosey, its Saturday, and I-don't-really-care-where-I'm-going type. MINIs compliantly deliver in abundance either way and at all points in between. Pretty amazing for a little car.
I prefer music a little more mellow to go with that open window, breezy, motor-wherever-ya-please kinda vibe. That's so me. Right now, Wilco's new one is in my CD player. Lovin' it.
If you're making a mix, don't forget to throw in some Beatles, too.....or something UK retro.

For flat-out ball-to-the-wall driving, quite often it's 'axmen', Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, The Hellecasters, Danny Gatton, etc.
Long trips get long, introspective progressive rock: Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP, Dream Theater, Enchant, Genesis, Porcupine Tree, Rush and the like, and left-of-center stullf like Toad The Wet Sprocket, Verve, Cracker, Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, TMBG, Morcheeba.
For the daily grind it's mostly metal: Motorhead, Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Metallica, King's X, etc, but can be anything, depending on my mood. I have a huge music library that I like to take a trip through whenever I can, and with the CD changer, iPod and Sirius in the MINI, I could drive for months at a time and not hear the same thing twice.

It would be a great commercial to see a parked MINI 3/4 view...and the backgrounds and people keep changing to the types of music that change...hendrix-crosstown traffic/animals-spill wine/sheryl crowe-steve mcqueen/beatles-drive my car/chuck berry-maybelline/cake-going the distance...
of course, you would have to deal with Michael Jackson to get all the copyrights!

I recently started using Rhapsody so I can listen to the recommended albums and get a good mix. Those that I don't own, I can buy if needed. (If you're interested in trying Rhapsody, I'd go with the BestBuy version since you get a 2 week trial instead of 1 week on listen.com.)
I range from Eminem to techno (1995 Chicago rave tapes) to downtempo, (Jamiroquai, Digable Planets, Soul Coughing), to punk (NOFX, Blink 182, etc), to classic rock (Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers) - all over the board. My selection has been limited lately since I've never had a CD player in my car (and my tape deck at home is broken).

Motoring Music
I personally like to listen to a lot of Dave Matthews Band and Rage Against the Machine while driving.

Personally, I have every CD I own on my iPod, and play it thru my stereo, with the randomizer on, like having my own personal radio station without commercials. There is like two weeks worth of non-stop music there, of everything I like, without repeating a song!
The AUX IN jack was a great addition to my MINI!

Hmmm...fast and punk type stuff!
Nekromantix, The Methadones, Death by Stereo, Stray Bullets, Mad Sin, Ragged Old Flag, One Man Army, Life of Agony, Roger Miret & The Disasters, Ten Foot Pole, Dropkicks, Intro5pect, Tiger Army and more.

I'm starting to ponder the same question ..but I have much more time!
I prefer Blues Brothers first album...
Thinking of leading off with Beep Beep by the Playmates - to get from the dealer to the freeway...
then going into Mahavishnu Orchestra - Noonward Race
So much to consider when compiling such an important playlist!
Peter - in Denver

My 60GB mp3 player is loaded with 15,000+ songs from the 1920's to 2004... minus most of what has been mentioned here so far.
I'm glad we can all listen to whatever we want in our MINI's. Really really glad!
