Threads Merged

There were two music threads at the top of MINI Talk. Both of those have been merged into this one. In addition, I also merged in the three threads below. There is now one big thread with a lot of music listed to give you ideas for what to listen to next time out in your MINI.

I will do that. My brother loves Radiohead, so I shall go digging through his CD collection. As for what I like, I'm a melody addict. I tend to fall for songs that have very strong melodies (and loud guitars also help). I also like crappy singers like Dylan, Lou Reed, Jonathan Richman, Neil Young, etc..

I kinda picked up a vibe that you played the gitbox. Also, reading your profile helped.

I play the guitar, too. I'm currently playing the bass in a band. We do power pop and punky, garage stuff. What do you play?

My current favorite is the new What Is Hip: Tower of Power Anthology cd. I highly recommend it for lovers of funky soul music with jazz and rock influences thrown in. TOP’s horn section is awesome.

It has all of their best hits including what I think is the absolute best driving song:

Squib Cakes

Crank up the HK and hit the curves baby

Mlebeau, that's a great list! I've copied that one.

The original Tomb Raider CD has a great mix to drive by too.

More suggestions

Just about anything from Cake is great(hey, that rhymes!)
You're not dating yourself, you're going "old school"(that's what the kids are saying). Here's my attempt at "old school".

Elvis Costello-Goon Squad(or anything by Mr. Costello circa 1978-1989)
The Pogues-If I should fall from grace with God.
XTC-Oranges& Lemons (the entire CD).
A nice mix of They might be Giants
Van Morrison
The Waterboys-Greatst Hits
Brave Combo-Just about anything...come on give it a chance.
New Order-Regret
Mighty Mighty Bosstones-The Impression that I get
Bloodhound Gang-The Bad Touch
The Clash-London Calling(a must in every collection)
The Ratpack -Live at the Sands

Not alot of things that are Thumping and Bumping, but a great mix of styles to motor to.

So much... pop rock! Can't breathe...

Anyways, I have an iTunes (and iPod) playlist that I call the Lowrider Mix. It's basically slower, bass-heavy electronic which sounds like what you'd hear coming out of an old Cadillac bouncing through Compton. Here it is (most of it is in the iTunes US store):

Groove Armada - Suntoucher (feat. Jeru the Damaja)
DJ Shadow - Fixed Income
The Prodigy - Diesel Power
Amon Tobin - Four Ton Mantis
Leftfield - Dusted
Tosca - Honey (Markus Kienzl dub)
DJ Shadow - Walkie Talkie
Mr. Scruff - Jusjus (feat. Roots Manuva)
The Prodigy - You'll Be Under My Wheels
Leftfield - Afrika Shox (feat. Afrika Bambataa)
Underworld - Bruce Lee (The Micronauts Remix)

If you have a keen sense of the irony of blasting out phat beats from a small British car, you'll appreciate this playlist.

Welcome Back my Friend (?) - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Now we just have to get ours. She's in port, hopefully going to the VDC today, maybe to us before Christmas.

Guess I'm an old rocker.

This is a great thread.

Morrissey! Or of course the Smiths.
"float on" by modest mouse is pretty cool too.

And you can't leave out "london calling" - especially the live version from the Clash.

If you want to be contemplative, try anything from the Red House Painters - or Mark Kozelek. Marks new band is called Sun Kil Moon - excellent stuff. I'm still waiting for my MCSC, and I can't wait! For now these tunes will live on in my volvo.

Some great diverse tunes listed on this post!

How about early British Invasion stuff: Stones, Yardbirds, Hollies, Kinks, Chad & Jeremy, Moody Blues, etc.

The early 60's brought a lot of British artists over the pond, with the help of the Beatles, and the Mini was made far more popular over here.

Red
