Brake Fluid r53

Ok I came across 3 types of brake fluids for our cars. Can someone direct me to the correct one? Are their any differences between the 3?

ATE DOT 4 TYP 200

ATE SL.6 DOT4

MINI GENUINE 81220142156

ATE typ 200 dry 280C, wet 198C boiling points.
ATE SL.6 ---dry 265C, wet 175C, low viscosity formula supposed to be more
responsive with modern ABS systems
MINI dry 216, wet 155

the typ 200 will be the most fade resistant, and it's supposed to hold up better over time
in a street car compared to some of the super high performance ones like Castrol SRF or Motul RBF600.

The SL.6 is relatively new and although its boiling points are lower than the typ 200, there may be
some advantage to its lower viscosity. Don't know how important this is in practice. Maybe someone
else does.

The MINI fluid is certainly fine for most street driving, although you could push it to fading more easily
than the other two if you tried.

im assuming as an average driver they will all work. For hot climate the typ 200 would be best? any recommendations? thanks for the quick reply btw.

Not so much hot ambient temperature, but how hot the calipers and pads
get during heavy braking. Not that much harder to cook the brakes in the
winter compared to the summer on the track or with very spirited driving.

Thanks this helps. What are the chances of those fluids being mixed with one another. Any issues down the line? Im thinking i still have oem fluid in my car so if I get the typ 200 im curious if it will cause issues with the pump or cylinders.

They are all miscible, but since the SL6 has lower viscosity than the typ 200 (not sure
about the specs on the MINI fluid), you'd should definitely do a full flush, and if possible,
hook up to a factory level scan tool to flush the abs unit to get it all uniform. If you can't
do that, then maybe brake a bit on snow, gravel, etc., to activate the ABS and then do
another flush.

I've been using typ 200 the last several flushes and my ABS seems to do fine with it, FWIW.

One of the requirements of DOT 4 brake fluid (the type MINI uses) is that they should be able to mix. That said, you should still flush your fluid before adding new stuff. Just ensures no mixing problems occur and gives you a chance to bleed your lines. I've heard good stuff about TYP 200. But as long as it is DOT 4 compliant, you're really not going to notice any differences in braking performance just from different fluids.

Good info from Cristo^. One addition, the TYP 200 is less hydrophilic than SRF and other pure racing fluids, but we still recommend an annual flush if you use it.

Need dot 4 fluid as stated above, I really like the type 200 as that's what I run i both my MINIs.
