R53 v belt issues!!!!!

Hey guys i could really need your help here.
I own a mini cooper s r53 2002. First time crankshaft pulley failed, replaced it with an Alta pulley 2% with a new belt tensioner and a new belt. After a month tensioner and v belt failed again. After that i replaced the belt tensioner again with a brand new one. 3 month passed and the v belt failed again, tearing it apart.

Installed on the vehicle: Alta crankshaft lightweight pulley 2%, 17% lightweight supercharger pulley
And new belt tensior. I've already ised 3 sizes of v belt (6pk1388, 6pk1368, 6pk1370) all of them failed.

Any idea how can i sort it out

Thanks in advance guys .

It sounds like the pulleys may not be lined up correctly. Maybe get a good look at their alignment to see if something was not installed perfectly or has shifted. It wouldn't take much to have the belt self-destruct.

Use a good, old-fashioned timing light. It slows things down to 1/4 speed of the engine so that you can better see what's happening. Just my opinion, mind you, but 19% total reduction is pushing it. If you run it at high rpm for long, it will overheat.

First off, NOT a reduction pulley fan unless it's dampened like one from MINI for 05/06 or aftermarket one like ATI or BSH. While the solid reduction pulley is ok for a race engine short track where revs are always up and never get out of 3rd gear, for a daily driver you lose rotational torque reducing on/off throttle response when in 5th and 6th gears, and over time will damage your crank bearings.

Secondly have over 200K on a 17% reduction SC pulley. I never burn a drop of oil and SC puts out 18lbs of boost. Really don't need much more than that and wouldn't dream of forcing more air through unless I dialed up larger injectors than my current 380's. Doing so risks leaning out the engine....

Lastly, what the heck are those belt numbers ? I tried a cross reference and came up dry. At the very least you should be using the equivalent of a NAPA 060532. If it's eating up belts, especially at the edges, you either have the incorrect size belt, or as previously stated one of them is not fully lined up. How much time between SC pulley swap and the crank swap ? If not much time between the two then it could even the SC pulley not fully seated.

GL.

I would suspect that the one or both of the pulleys is not installed correctly causing a mis-alignment that is stressing the belt. A wrong size belt should not cause the stated problem. I too short belt will just be hard to install and a too long belt will slip a little. How many holes are showing on the tensioner tab?
I also agree that 17% Supercharger Pulley and 2% Crank Pulley is too much.
Is the 2% Crank Pulley a dampened pulley (such as ATI) or is it one of the inexpensive light weight aluminum pulleys?

The original poster is apparently from Cyprus so likely wouldn't see any fractional stuff?

I dislike the fractional sizing and much prefer metric because it just seems so much simpler to grasp, at least for me.

I think Eurothrasher had the correct answer with the 060532 or equivalent --- Gates themselves don't even bother with the goofy fractional markings in some countries because it would cause too much confusion, likely apt to see something like this:

:

The smallest size that the op tried and listed was a 6PK1368

Usually Gates in North America at least list the metric/fractional size both on the packaging and on the belt itself,
but the metric nomenclature always gets second billing LOL
