Dynoed my car this past weekend

Hello everyone. Went to a local dyno day and strapped the car down and i was suprised.

I will have the charts up as soon as i can get the file from the shop. (expecting an email anytime.)

First pull was 174.8WHP and TQ was 148lbs
and the other 3 were with in a hp or so.

Here are my mods.
Alta Intake
Alta 15% pulley
Ver 38 software

So are those good numbers with the mods i have? There were some guys with the works kits only making ~160 somthing and that took me by supprise. I dont even have exhaust or a ported head. This makes me wonder.

Are you saying 174 horsepower at the wheels?! Seems impossible to me. The JCW kit making 160 at the wheels sounds about right, though.

Justin,

Those #'s sound about right. My car spent three days on the dyno last week and with the following mods:

15% Alta
K&N CAI
62mm TB
Borla race
GIAC 91 octane ECU

it dyno'd at 185whp which is not bad.

We had a really good pull at 189whp on the third day, but I believe it was only because it was the car's first pull of the day and the car's engine was still fresh. It wasn't constantly reproduceable so I can't count it.

Anyhow, you're right about the works. Prior to the GIAC ECU my car dyno'd at around 168whp with the works ECU, and 178whp with the stock MCS ECU.

I only had the works ECU and not the entire kit, so in all fairness maybe it only makes power with the kit.

I don't know? But I'd like to think that, anyway.

Yes, at the wheels. I will have the graph up soon. I dont know why mine was so much difrent than everyone else. Everyone was 160~ and when i went on after them i pulled 174 WHP and backed it up with a nother 170 WHP.

THe 174 and 170 whp pulles were in third and i did 2 more pulls in 4th and was only able to get 168WHP using 4th gear. There were over 17 cars that dynoed that day, some JCW cars as well as pulley moded cars.

And where can we get this GIAC 91 octane ECU?

And where can we get this GIAC 91 octane ECU?

That's very reasonable. The last time I dynoed with Alta CAI, TMIC, 15% pully, Miltek header, Borla Race cat-back resulted with 193 wheel hp.

Your HP of 174.8 sounds very good yet your torque of 148 sounds terrible. Maybe that's the fault of V.38. Who knows? But I'd get an ECU soon.

AMPR was the guy that let GIAC do some final numbers on his car. They just did the testing last week so he's got the software. But it's not available to the general public yet - but will be really soon!

And 2003.

And 2004.

BUT....

If I'm reading AMPR's first post correctly, the wait might well have been worth it. 185whp - 168whp = 17 WHP just from the GIAC chip on a pullied car? That's a VERY robust gain if it's real and reproducible. And that on 91 octane...I wonder what Garrett has in store for us East-coast 93-octaners!

AMPR - how much torque are you making?

Or better yet 101 users. We can buy 101 at the pump here and it is Unleaded. WOOO.

And yes this ecu sounds very nice, where can i read about it more?

MartyR,

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=29157

Let me clarify this...I went from a stock MCS ECU (roughly 175-178) to the works ECU and lost -10whp (168). I went back to the stock MCS ECU and got back the 10whp I'd lost from the works ECU, and then gained a few extra hp from the GIAC. If I'd gone from the works to the GIAC it would have been 17hp, but my car is not equipped with the works.

Personally, I'd like to see a gain of 17whp but going from a stock ECU to the GIAC ECU is a gain of only about 5-7whp +or-, depending on your car, your car's moderate mods and any extra work your car might have (header, head and/or cam, intercooler, etc.). Don't know about torque, I don't have any of that data yet.

And, I don't know what you'll see with 101 octane, but I sure would like to find out.

AH HA!

Thanks for the clarification. Still, that's not so bad, and if the GIAC is priced around $500-$550, that's OK by me. I had planned on doing an ECU upgrade after the pulley/intake/exhaust, so maybe it's time to consider this again. There are a LOT of MINIacs out there who have been waiting VERY VERY long for this upgrade. I'd LOVE to see a side-by-side with the GIAC and UNIChip (vs. stock, or course)...

Yeah I would actually like to see a comparison between all the chips. I hope it makes more than 5-7hp, because the hype for the chip really doesn't parlay into awesome ground breaking numbers.

I really don't know what all the chips make. The numbers are very confusing. I have yet to really find out what a Unichip makes. Everyone touts that the Unichip is great, but very conflicting dynos out there, and seems to still have a lot of bugs in it. Why does everyone think this is the pinnacle of chips! I have seen everything from 10+hp to negative hp. I would really like to see Randy or Erik or someone do a side by side comparison on these chips. Maybe even a magazine such as GoMini (which by the way I find the reviews horrendous. For example, their latest issue had the M7 venom kit in it with barely any comments on it's performance or even some numbers). Really 5 hp is about in the same territory as the AmD, which is much cheaper than the $550 for the GIAC. It really isn't that far off the mark for the MTH which is significantly cheaper.
