Who else hasn't ever checked their MINI into the dealer?

This doesn't count for you sub-10000 mile guys. Just wondering who, if any, have not checked the car in for services and decided to either take the car to a specialist or do it yourself? I have almost 13,000 miles on my car and have done 3 oil changes, changed the rear boot latch to the updated one, installed parcel shelf/intake/exhaust/lowering springs/wheels+tires and done one tire rotation and the car hasn't ever gone in. I would've taken her in had the service-in time been convenient for me (too early in the morn, school+work constraints made it impossible) at the local dealership. Additionally, when I inquired about bringing it in for the new-style boot latch, they told me I had to make an appointment and leave the car with them for the better part of a day so they could "assess and resolve the situation". I just bought the $9.00 boot latch and said to hell with them. I'll refrain from mentioning which dealership it is, but will say that it is NOT Universal City and that Universal City's parts guy/dept. has treated me great when I went in to buy oil filters.

I really wish Classic MINI (the dealership I bought my car from) was in the L.A. area instead of Ohio, they treated me right at the time of sale and I wouldn't hesitate to take my car there for service. Oh well...

For the boot latch I wish I had the old one.

A little tape and it was quiet again. With mine if I close it too hard (too hard being defined as anything but JUST ENOUGH pressure to make it latch) and the light says it's open and the dome light inside stays on.

I find this a real annoyance.

That , then newfangled seat belt attachment, and the silly exhaust mounting points.....

IF IT AIN'T BROKEN DON'T FIX IT...

I reccomend you just put the tape on the bit on the boot that goes into the catch. It's not perfect, but I think it the best fix to the problem.

Xanthus, that's really odd. With my hood, if I close it the way you described (anything more than juuuuuust enough) the light will stay on. No problems with the light staying on after i close the hatch, even though I slam it pretty good most of the time. I have the updated latch by the way and no more annoying squeaks thus far.

Nah, I gotcha. It's that way with your boot, but it's that way with my hood. Either way, I've had 2 glasses of wine and it's 3:30 over there so we're probably both a bit buzzed

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to have the dealer perform the scheduled maintenance (or prove that it was done) to maintain your warranty?

Nope, just document your work and the warranty will still be intact. I did the same with my VW.
